This document will guide you through resolving a situation where you have Push Extractors failing to collect data. Specifically when they fail due to BW InfoCubes missing and inactive, with Error message “InfoCube <infocube name> does not exist” This situation will directly affect Technical Monitoring, Root Cause Analysis, and Early Watch Alerts. Unfortunately I have not discovered the root cause. But this is the Solution if you confront the issue.

The errors can be found in the SAP Solution Manager Administration Workcenter.

     1. Enter Transaction SOLMAN_WORKCENTER in Solution Manager

     2. Select SAP Solution Manager Administration

     3. Select Infrastructure on the left side of the screen

     4. Select Framework

     5. In the dropdown select Extractor Framework

     6. Uncheck the last status “Green”

    1. This will filter out all the extractors in a green status
    2. As you can see we have 232 extractors in a Red status. This is due to a large number of InfoCube being Inactive. Causing the extractor to be unable to store the data that is collected.

     7. Select an Extractor in a red status

    1. This will display the log for that extractor

     8. Review the log and copy out the info cube name

     9. Review the rest of the extractors that are failing and write down the infocubes that are inactive

     10. In this case the extractors that are failing are all for the Database metrics for Oracle and HANA

       a. 0ORA_C01H

          b. 0ORA_C07H

          c. 0ORA_C04H

          d. 0ORA_C06H

          e. 0ORA_C02H

          f. 0HDB_C05H

          g. 0HDB_C15H

          h. 0HDB_C10H

          i. 0HDB_C04H

          j. 0HDB_C16H

Step by Step Instructions

     1. Execute Transaction RSA1 in Solution Manager

     2. Select BI Content

     3. Select InfoProvider by Info Area

     4. Select Data Warehousing Workbench

     5. Turn on the Collected Objects window by Selecting Collected Objects Window on/off

     6. Find the InfoCubes that need to be activated

     7. Select all of them and Drag and drop them to the Collected Objects window

     8. Notice that there the column for active versions is empty. This is because these infocubes were never installed. Once installed they will be activated.           But they must be installed first.

    1. Notice I added some Infocubes that are active. You can see they have an active version available status

     9. Select all of the Infocubes

     10.  Select Install

     11.  In the drop down select Install in Background

     12.  In the prompt select yes

     13.  Check the job and wait for it to finish

     14.  Select Refresh

     15.  You can now see that the Active Version Available has a grey status. The InfoCubes have now been activated.

     16.  Verify they are active

    1. Right Click on the InfoCube
    2. Select Start Object Maintenance

     17.  You can see that the InfoCube is now active and executable

Verify Resolution

Now you need to verify that the extractors are executing successfully. The background job Event Calculation Engine, executes the extractors based on each extractors configuration. The Event Calculation Engine runs every minute, but each extractor can run up to once a day. So you will need to wait for each extractor to execute before you will know if the issue is resolved.

     1. Enter Transaction SOLMAN_WORKCENTER in Solution Manager

     2. Select SAP Solution Manager Administration

     3. Select Infrastructure on the left side of the screen

     4. Select Framework

     5. In the dropdown select Extractor Framework

     6. Filter by the extractor type to see if all extractors are in a green status.

    1. Select the Filter Option on the right side of the screen
    2. Enter the type, in this case it is DBMS
    3. Hit the Enter Key
    4. As you can see we had 232 extractors in a Red status. Now we only have 29.

     7. Select an Extractor in a green status

    1. This will display the log for that extractor

     8. Review the log and see that each run has been successful

     9. This extractor runs every 5 min. Others run every hour or once a day. Each extractor is unique.

     10.  If the extractor is still red, check to see if it has ran since you activated the infocube. If it hasn’t ran yet, the wait for it to run before troubleshooting          further.

     11.  Issue is resolved.
