I'm a fan of the KISS approcah ... KISS is an acronym for the design principle articulated by Kelly Johnson, Keep it simple, Stupid! ...   The KISS principle states that most systems work best if they are kept simple rather than made complex.

Working with one of my colleagues today uncovered an expertly simple way of speeding up BI4 performance in large, rapidly growing environments. If you remember XI3 the search index was created on a scheduled basis akin to any report schedule. However the default in BI4 is "Continuous Crawling". Imagine what this does to an environment using publications to distribute hundreds of reports.. not only is the report generated but resources are than expended indexing the resulting instance.

The very quick fix is to revert back to a "Scheduled Crawl" for the search index creation based on the system administrators knowledge of the system usage profiles.  In many cases once daily is sufficient, but you decide.

Steps

1. In the CMC navigate to Applications

2. Select Platform Search Application

3. Change the frequency from Continuous Crawl to Scheduled Crawl

4. You'll then get an prompt to schedule the search index

5. In the CMC navigate to All Folders >> Platform Search Scheduling

6. Right click on the Platform Search Schedule Object

7. Select Schedule and create a schedule with appropriate frequency to meet your needs.

And one more thing …

Did you realize that the View access level in BI4 doesn’t include export rights ?
