What is API Hub?

SAP API Management Cloud Edition has been released since July 2015. With this, customers can manage, publish and analyze usage of their APIs exposed to their business partners and customers through a cloud-based infrastructure based on SAP HANA Cloud Platform. As part of the evolution of SAP API Management CloudEdition we also want to offer pre-defined content from SAP going forward.

What's in right now?

As the first step we showcase today the SAP API Hub (Beta). You find access to SAP API Hub (Beta) in your HCP Trial Account under "Services" --> "SAP API Hub" --> "Integration" --> "SAP API Hub".

This site includes a first collection of APIs related to SAP HANA Cloud Platform (HCP) but will also include over time other APIs coming from cloud applications and other services offered by SAP. As a starting point - to showcase also the API consumer experience - we provide access to HCP Platform APIs and HCP Services APIs.

With this, all SAP HCP Trial developers can discover and consume platform APIs through the SAP API Hub.

What's in for developers?

As an application developer it gives you a glimpse on how the consumption experience of managed APIs will be like. You can discover and browse the provided APIs, subscribe to them and get access granted. Once subscription is done, the developer can use the obtained API key to use the API as per his requirements.

As all of the APIs that we expose are also exposed directly from SAP HANA Cloud Platform, one can also see that SAP API Management allows to standardize API usage through one single environment.

What's next?

As you see, this is just a starting point. We will enhance the provided APIs subsequently to offer more choices for application developers. At the same time we also plan to overhaul the user experience and take advantage of SAP Fiori UI-technology in the next releases. So look out for news in Q2/2016.

Please stay tuned as we will post additional blogs to show you how to consume APIs through the SAP API Hub (Beta).

If you have feedback about SAP API Hub, also about content you would like to see in here and which scenarios you have pressing on your list, please post your comments here. We appreciated any feedback you may have for us. You can also reach us via mail.
