I was always wondering what are these new hefty things mean:  ASE Platform edition.... ASE Edge edition.

At last I have found what's in there - and, well, was very pleased.  So much so that I could not resist sharing it at once so it is accessible more easily to others:

I am thrilled that the Developer Edition includes such gems as IMDB, Compression, Semantic Partitioning and Encrypted Column (DB encryption too, I wonder)...  I am thrilled to see the Compression and Semantic Partitioning as a part of both Platform and Edge editions. These are very strong features and since ASE 16 SP02 extends these even further (DSAM functionality) having these options included in base license is fantastic.

I think the Enterprise Edition will at some point become the least attractive ASE Edition.

SAP - you made my day.  I think I'm off for a coffee break  ...

ps.  and by the way, "Runtime Edition" is a nice way to call the all-option-granted ASE on which SAP application run....  Not for sale...
