In the previous entries about SAP BusinessObjects Analysis, OLAP edition I outlined how to leverage some of the basic features and how you can leverage hierarchies as part of your workflows.

This time I would like to share how you can create your own calculations as part of the crosstab.

Let's start with a very simple crosstab as shown below.

We can see the Products Costs, Net Value, and Transport Costs by Product.

To make it a little bit easier to read we will create a new column "Total costs" which represent tha summary of Product Costs and Transport Costs. We can simply select the column Product Costs and the Column Transport Cost.

After we selected those two columns we can select the menu Calculations and use the Add menu entry. There is no need for us to specify which items to add as we did already select those columns and SAP BusinessObjects Analysis, OLAP Edition then creates an new column representing the calculation.

Now after we created the Total Cost column we are also interested in the percentage value of the Total Cost in relation to the Net Value.

This time we are opening the Custom Caluclation menu...

where we can use a large set of Functions. In our example we are using the %_A function ...

and as shown above we can use our previous calculation as part of this additional calculation.

In the resultset we are now showing the Net Value, the Total Costs (Product Costs + Transport Costs), and our new custom calculation representing the percentage value.

We can now use the percentage value and the sort option to very quickly find the least profitable products...

and in addition we are using now the Dynamic Calculation option...

... to show the contribution of each product to the total of the Net Value of all products shown.

This is just a short summary of some example how you can use custom and dynamic caluclations in SAP BusinessObjects Analysis, OLAP edition.

In the next blog about SAP BusinessObjects Analysis, OLAP Edition we will look into the capabilities to leverage several BEx queries in a single worksheet.
