1. Overview:
Import Wizard is one of the utility of SAP BusinessObject . We can import and export user accounts, groups, folders, reports, universe, security servers. We can use the Import Wizard to import content from BusinessObjects, Crystal Enterprise, or BusinessObjects Enterprise into your current BusinessObjects Enterprise deployment. We can also export content from a BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 3.x deployment to a Business Intelligence Archive Resource (BIAR) file, or import content from a BIAR file to BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 3.x deployment. We can use it to take backup of entire system and to transport the BO objects from one environment to another.
2. Scenario:
We will learn how to transport a SAP WebI report from SAP BO XI 3.1 Dev environment to SAP BO XI 3.1 another (Q/P)environment.
3. Advantages
1. Reusing same component: We need not to create the report from scratch in destination environment. We will deploy the same report from source environment to destination environment by using Import Wizard.
2. Saving Efforts: We need not to put same efforts in other environment. Thus we will reuse WebI report creation efforts in other environments.
3. Integrity: By using this strategy we can maintain a practice in our project s. Thus we can maintain integrity in all systems.
4. Solution Steps
Let’s see how to perform this activity using Import Wizard in BO XI 3.1
Step 1: Login to Import Wizard Utility Go to Start >> Programs>> BusinessObjects XI 3.1 >> BusinessObjects Enterprise Client Tools >> Import Wizard
Fig 1
Step 2: Click on “Next” and provide the below parameters which are mandatory for log into
Source: This is the environment from which you need to deploy the WebI report. This environment has Webi document present which we will transport to destination environment. There are some sources available (refer Fig 3)
CMS Name: Put CMS name of source environment
User Name:
Password:
Authentication: Keep it as “Enterprise”
Fig. 4
Step 3: Provide the below parameters
Destination: This is the environment to which we need to deploy the WebI report. There are two options available (refer Fig 5)
CMS Name: Put CMS name of the destination environment
User Name:
Password:
Authentication: Keep it as “Enterprise”
Step 4:
a) Select “Import folders and Objects” (“Import application folder and Objects”)
b) Select “ Import universe”
Fig. 8
Note1: Every SAP Webi document is built on a Universe that is the reason we need to transport respective Universe also from source to the destination environment explicitly. If we don’t import respective universe to the destination environment, while opening the WebI document in the destination environment system will throw an error “Universe is not present”.
Step 5:
Select the Import Scenario which you want to prefer
Step 6: If system finds the object in destination environment, what should it overwrite (define the option from below available options).
Step 7: Select the desired objects /folders from source environment which you are willing to transport to destination environment from below screen.
Step 8:
Select the application folder if you want from below screen
Step 9:
Select the suitable option for universe and connection from below
Fig. 13
Note2: If you don’t have any “universe loads” uncheck the last option “Keep universe overloads for imported users and groups”
Step 10:
Select the option for recipients.
Generally while transporting a webi report. It is not require to import recipients.
Fig. 14
Now Import Wizard will prepare for import and gather the objects according to our selections which we made till now. Once it gathers all the objects and ready to import.
Fig. 15
Step 11: Click on “Finish”
Fig. 16
Step 12: Click on “Done”. We can check the log also by clicking the option “View Details Log”
Now you have imported a WebI report from source to the destination environment.
Now you can log into the destination environment and see the WebI document is available.
5. Point to ponder:
When we import universe by using BO XI 3.1 Import wizard, Universe is available in the destination system but with the source parameter only. Thus WebI document will throw below error message:
“A database error occured. The database error text is: The SAP SSO authentication process will fail because the current user doesn't have an alias that matches system BWDCLNTXXX.. (WIS 10901)”
Reason: We have imported universe and its connection with the source system’s parameter only. Destination system is not able to understand it as these parameters are not defined there.
Solution: Login to Universe Designer in the destination environment and check the respective connection. Try to test it. It will not respond. Check the setting and modify connection with destination system’s parameter.
