With this blog, I would like to make you aware of new material about SAP NetWeaver Decision Service Management (NW DSM) and Business Rule Framework plus (BRFplus).

SAP DSM/BRFPlus System Architecture Considerations

Srini Sandaka and Matthias Kucharska at MOURI Tech, two early BRFplus pioneers, contributed a document titled: SAP DSM/BRFPlus System Architecture Considerations. Its summary reads as follows:

This document throws some light on SAP BRFPlus and Decision Service Management system architecture considerations. Decision services are part of an integrated into business applications and thereby impact the overall application performance. The best performance can be achieved when executing pre-compiled coding locally, which is achieved by SAP DSM/BRFplus and a major difference to other rules engines, which must interpret coding (e.g. java based products) or require calls into different stacks and to different servers.

Executing a BRFplus Decision Service from an Android Device

Joydeep Paul and Saba Samrin have created a nice document combining several new technologies to make a decision service modeled in BRFplus available on a mobile device.  The document gives a step-by-step explanation. Joydeep is a good friend of mine and an important source of inspiration for BRFplus architecture.

Quick and Dirty (QAD) - 02 Implementing custom TM Conditions (Part 1 of 3)

Felipe Hernandez Plazas is one of the best NW DSM and BRFplus consultants we have at SAP. Time has come for him to enlighten us with another series of blogs in the area of Transportation Management.

Pave the Way to an Agile Enterprise - Increase Your Business Agility with SAP NetWeaver Decision Ser...

This is a nice article for decision makers. Its summary is as follows:

Because swiftly changing business conditions seem to be the new norm in today’s market, companies need to adapt quickly and learn to be more agile in their decisions. That’s one reason SAP developed SAP NetWeaver Decision Service Management. The solution helps you respond to changing business and regulatory requirements by making it faster and easier to create and modify the automated decision-making logic used in SAP Business Suite and ABAP-based custom applications.

Thanks to Matthias Weber and Wolfgang Schaper we now also have something for the management levels that do not (want to) understand all of the gory details.

Implementing Rebate Voucher Functionality with BRF+ in a Classical ERP

Rüdiger Platiko’s blog is already a classic: very profound, very explicit, and it even comes with a reference list. He is not only an expert in BRFplus but also knows how to blog! The abstract reads as follows:

In a recent development project, I successfully employed the Business Rules Framework BRFplus as the rules engine for voucher-based rebates in a retail scenario. In this blog, I describe my experiences and some implementation details. The bottomline is that I fully achieved my goal of implementing the rules in the business rules framework, keeping it separate from the ABAP code, which only calls the rules with the actual parameters. The rules are integrated into the classical SD pricing procedure which now functions as a façade. The processing of the rules is of highly satisfactory performance.

BRFplus: Business Rules Processing in SAP TM

Samir Pipala from GOPA blogs about his experience using BRFplus in a Transportation Management project in the Bay Area.
