This was an ASUG webcast last week given by ASUG, SAP and Blue Hill Research.

The agenda included what is analytics, business analytics, four key types, the domains of analytics, making it work in 10 steps and building an approach.

Figure 1 shows the big data market forecast through 2017.  The speaker said to execute on Big data to  provide business value

The trend for products and services includes application development tools and visualization

Also the services include humanizing data and presenting it in a consumable fashion

Mega vendors are starting to get message straight; from buzz words to products that can do this

It is best to look at a use case

Have to go to CEO to get buy in

It varies by organization and amount of decentralized

Customer-centric can be internal or external

  • Behavioral or predictive – making numbers for corporation

For risk/financial, there is risk in banking, life sciences – more in specific industries

  • Health care has 8 step model

Employee Collaboration is hotter on the scene than before for employees to collaborate across different functions

Why need big data? The top 3 reasons are in red in Figure 8, with #3 being real time information with SAP HANA

Figure 9 shows the infrastructure priorities for big data

The top one, information integration, it is sometimes take for granted

Facebook has 100 TB a day and needs to be scalable

Security is important; see the Target security breach example

Velocity is huge with different forms of data.  How HANA addresses it using real time nature of data
