What if a typical business process and application such as MRP suddenly became 10x faster? What if all of traditional business applications and processes became 10x faster? That would unleash huge growth in enterprise business productivity and enable business transformation akin to the one ushered in by the growth of Internet.

This is no longer a vision but reality for enterprises worldwide. Earlier this morning, SAP announced the availability of its industry-leading Business Suite software on the SAP HANA data platform. SAP Business Suite and its applications enable a significant portion of worldwide business transactions and processes in planning, manufacturing, delivery, sales, and consumption of many consumer and business products. With this announcement, SAP combines the proven  and industry-leading capabilities of Business Suite with the real-time analytics and decision-making enabled by HANA technology to unleash huge growth and innovation potential for its customers.

Here are some key highlights from this morning’s announcement:

  • Using SQL Stored Procedures (note: as I understand it), a single version of Business Suite can work with all major databases such as Oracle, IBM DB2, SQL Server, Sybase ASE, etc. in addition to SAP HANA database. This is great news for current customers that have significant investments in their database infrastructure.
  • SAP has optimized Business Suite for HANA to extract significant performance improvements in data access and reporting, potentially reducing or removing a large number of batch processes.
  • SAP will also with major database partners to enable these performance benefits for their respective databases.
  • According to John Deere, a launch customer, these new capabilities allows them to reinvent their business processes bringing data closer to decision making and increasing the value IT delivers to its stakeholders.

You can learn more about today’s announcement from Vishal Sikka’s blog and watching this overview video. In the following weeks and months, you will hear the details of this announcement and be able to learn more about its potential for yourself and your organization. I encourage you to follow this space and SAP HANA space on SCN for the latest news and helpful content.
