SAP customers can now add location information to their enterprise data in real time, further enhancing their competitive advantage, the company announced Tuesday. SAP has joined forces with Esri to co-innovate end-to-end support for spatial data across SAP HANA, SAP BusinessObjects and the SAP Mobile Platform.

ArcGIS provides Esri maps for SAP and others, as shown on this slide presented Monday by Esri President Jack Dangermond at the 2013 Esri International User Conference.

Esri is a Redlands, Calif.-based geographic information system (GIS) and location analytics provider. SAP solutions will work alongside the Esri ArcGIS platform to offer users the following capabilities:

  • Enriching SAP Business Suite applications with geographic content
  • Processing spatial, location and enterprise data using HANA in real time
  • Visualizing geographic information in maps, graphs and charts using tools from BusinessObjects

Esri ArcGIS is “a platform for designing and managing solutions through the application of geographic knowledge,” according to a product Web site. The company hopes that integrating its platform with SAP solutions will help customers more easily use Esri technology within the SAP landscape, an Esri sales director said in a statement.

For SAP’s part, combing location data with enterprise data to enrich and enhance real-time business applications will help to expand the HANA platform. Customers and independent software vendors (ISVs) will then be able to consume, process and analyze spatial, transactional and text data within HANA’s unified platform for predictive, location-based solutions based on Big Data.

SAP made the announcement at the 2013 Esri International User Conference, running Monday through Friday in San Diego.
