I’m probably late to the party on this, but I just came across this video: A Conference Call in Real Life. Since I work from home, the only interactions I have with my colleagues are via conference calls. I can relate to every scenario in this video. Three scenes in particular made me laugh out loud.

The “access code” scene [1:07]

When one participant can’t properly access the audio the online meeting room “chat” window fills up with call participants all typing in the same directions. In addition to the “chat” assists, the meeting host is given multiple verbal assists by participants eager to demonstrate their tech savviness in accessing a conference call.

The “talking over each other” scene [1:28]

Desiree and I are on many calls together, and for some reason, our phones are just enough out of sync that we are constantly talking over each other, pausing, saying “no, you go ahead,” apologizing, and generally confusing ourselves!

The “dog barking in the background” scene [2:30]

I have a dog, and 99% of the time he’s asleep at my side. However, if he hears a dog barking while I’m on speakerphone, he starts barking and that makes the other dog bark more. Then I have to go on mute, shuttle my pup outside, return to the call, and try to figure out what I missed.

The missing scene

The one thing missing in this video – the phantom voice mail. How many times are you on a call and somehow the whole meeting is recorded on someone’s voice mail. Slightly annoying for that someone, for sure, but worse for us when the nice voice mail lady repeats instructions for the “caller” to press 1 to save, press 2 to rerecord, or press 3 to continue recording….over and over!

What was your favorite scene? What other scenarios are missing from this video?
