Are you mulling over your options for cloud or on-premise solutions to improve invoice processing efficiency? At ExxonMobil, you can have it both ways.

That was the message Lionel Jellins delivered in his theater presentation at SAPPHIRE NOW 2014. At ExxonMobil, the global procurement organization
oversees procurement, materials supply chain management, and payables. As you can imagine, it’s a large group: 2,600 people, in 37 countries, managing more than $55 billion in spend and responsible for $528 billion in disbursements.

As Jellins related, the vision for ExxonMobil procurement is to be indispensable to its internal business partners. To live up to that promise, ExxonMobil relies on an automated procure-to-pay system, featuring the on-premise SAP Invoice Management solution and the cloud-based Ariba Network. Together, these integrated solutions deliver a touchless procure-to-pay process that is intuitive, efficient, and cost effective.

By combining a business network and on-premise invoice management software for collaborative commerce, ExxonMobil is reaping these benefits:

  • Lower order management and invoice processing costs
  • Reduced procure-to-pay cycle times and improved visibility throughout the process
  • Fewer invoice errors and exceptions
  • Increased capture of early payment discounts

Looking ahead, a key objective for ExxonMobil will be to aggressively increase the number of suppliers connecting electronically. “Ultimately, our goal is to receive all of our invoices electronically and get all or most of our POs out electronically,” said Jellins. “We foresee the day when all of our suppliers will electronically communicate with us. Even the doughnut guy!”
