China’s workforce is changing, and it’s doing so in a dramatic fashion.

Here are a couple of examples.

With an aging population and the legacy of the country’s one-child policy, the total labor pool in China is declining. (In a Forbes blog last year, writer Gordon C. Chang even asked the intriguing question “Is China Running Out of Workers?”) Further, Millennials now represent roughly 40% of the Chinese workplace according the Wall Street Journal.

How are these changes affecting Chinese companies and their approach to human resources?

The WSJ points out that as this younger, more tech-savvy generation becomes a bigger part of the workforce, many Chinese companies—including both state-owned and independent firms—are overhauling their human resource management to attract and keep this vital demographic.

And many firms, it appears, are turning to outsourcing and new technology for help.

CTG TMO is a Leader in HR Outsourcing

The Talent Management Organization (CTG TMO), a one-stop provider of  business process and human resources management solutions, supports more than 650,000 employees at 10,000 companies in the HR arena. With a network that covers some 300 cities across China, CTG TMO offers its customers a wide range of both offline and online services, from providing companies much needed labor resources to managing employee performance, payroll, and social benefits.

“Advanced technology is the key to HR outsourcing in China,” says Chen Ying, vice president of the sales division at CTG TMO, “and we believe cloud-based and mobile-enabled solutions are its future.”

Cloud and Mobility Seen as Foundational Technology

CTG TMO business leaders are taking this vision and building a strategic partnership with SAP to promote and integrate the latest technology in its impressive portfolio of HR management offerings. These technologies include HCM cloud applications, SAP Mobile Platform, and the SAP Afaria mobile device management solution.

CTG TMO, for example, uses solutions from SuccessFactors, an SAP company, to manage the performance of its own employees and to help provide the best job candidates for its clients. CTG TMO sees the cloud as the perfect environment for companies looking for fast growth – offering convenience, rapid implementation, and high scalability. “And the big value of the SuccessFactors software is that we can support our customers with proven best practices already used for 12 million employees around the world,” explains Li Hao, CTG TMO’s chief operating officer.

China has the largest mobile phone market in the world. CTG TMO’s employees and clients have come to rely on their mobile devices for business-to-business communication, data collection, and interactive employee management.

CTG TMO has been a leader in helping clients mobilize the workplace. SAP and CTG TMO jointly developed the ITAS system, which is a cloud platform for sales management based on SAP Mobile Platform. This solution helps customers effectively manage the front-line sales force and is especially useful for companies in highly competitive industries such as the fast-moving consumer goods sector.

As Li observes, “mobility maximizes the core value of any system by making it accessible to everyone from their mobile device.”

For CTG TMO, the bottom line is finding the right combination of technology and services to support the client’s specific business goals – whether that’s driving sales, expanding into new markets, or growing profitability.

Standing at a Crossroads

CTG TMO has a definite vision for continued innovation in the future. “We hope to make even greater use of the cloud and mobile in the next 3 to 5 years,” says Chen. And to that end, CTG TMO is now using these technologies to create value-add talent development solutions tailored to the unique needs of the Chinese market.

Many experts see China’s workforce at a crossroads. That’s certainly one location where innovation can make all the difference in the world.
