The strategic vision of SAP is to be THE cloud company powered by SAP HANA. Real-time data computing, data intelligence, and flexibility at scale are key ingredients to change any business. Understanding both the challenges and the opportunities that companies face in the midst of the digital transformation, SAP has created the digital business framework, - a structured framework to help our customers develop and execute on their digital business strategy. With this framework, the entire value chain is digitized, including the core, which serves as a platform for innovation and business process optimization bringing together business processes and analytics in real time to be smarter, faster, and simpler.

To protect the investments of our installed base, and to provide these customers with a path into the digital economy, SAP has  built the SAP S/4HANA suite with a stable but evolving digital core based on SAP HANA, available both on premise and in the cloud. The digital core is where the basis setup, master data, and core processes are defined and applied, and around which everything else can be built in a sustainable way. This renewed core represents the nucleus for the suite, the business process repository for the digital transformation, and will serve as the mission control center that controls the core processes as well as the basis to integrate best-of-breed applications into an individualized network of applications.

What role does SAP Custom Development play in the customers journey to S/4HANA?

SAP Custom Development is well positioned in supporting our customers in their transformational journey to the Digital world on S/4HANA both for both custom specific development projects be it on premise or in the cloud and with our rich and growing product suite.

The Custom Development Project and Support offering is the perfect play when it comes to moving customers mission critical business to S/4HANA. Customers are looking to transform their existing core business processes to the digital world on S4 – therefore SAP needs to provide the same sophisticated, rich and tailored business processes we have already today on the SAP Suite. With the SAP S/4HANA 1511 released in November, SAP now offers customers the capability to run their core logistics processes on S/4. To ensure the solution fits to their specific requirements, SAP Custom Development is the perfect partner as SAP Custom Development not only build the project extension according to SAP standards and guidelines – but also provide support to protect the customers investment and make it future-proof.

Here some two examples of S/4 HANA engagements running already today:

  • One of Australia´s largest food and beverage companies and as part of a bigger SAP S/4HANA deal, SAP Custom Development is engaged around SAP Fiori and functional enhancements for PO and the shopping cart
  • An international supermarket chain, where SAP Custom Development is engaged in a project with which focuses on delivering on SAP Fiori enhancements on S/4HANA

What is the plan to convert the SAP Custom Development product portfolio onto SAP S/4HANA and what are the roadmaps?

From a product portfolio point-of-view, the full suite of SAP Custom Development products is being evaluated for SAP S/4HANA compatibility. The team started with sFIN based on the current Business Suite (EhP7/8). Baseline is that each product is being considered relevant for sFIN on top of the current Business Suite.

The next step is making our products available for SAP S/4HANA, on-premise edition which will be relevant for most of our products. Tests are currently carried out for the majority of the products and potential adjustments need to be planned per product afterwards.

How will SAP Custom Development play a substantial role in the migration path for our customers to SAP S/4HANA?

We have offerings to support our customers in their migration path to SAP S/4HANA, however the business is still limited. Out of all SAP S/4HANA implementation projects, only around 10% are migration related projects. We have positioned our key value proposition with the SAP S/4HANA team and services and are acting opportunistic until the critical mass is growing. It should be clear to all that SAP S/4HANA is a key area for us and we are watching the development very closely to position SAP Custom Development early on when our customers are getting more ready.
