Were you at SAPPHIRE NOW 2016?

I was there live at the SAP HANA Innovation Award Ceremony to speak with the judges, finalists, and winners.

The event, sponsored by Intel, was larger than ever this year with almost all 12 finalists and 15 honorable mentions in attendance.

As judge John Applebee told me, “There were over 130 entries. It’s massive.” Massive indeed. This year, 130 different SAP HANA customers shared their fascinating examples of the power that lies within real time in-memory computing.

Watch the event recap here:

Meet the Winners!

Analytics Wizard: Mercy

Mercy Hospital analyzed supplies to save $13 million dollars across multiple procedures. The organization improved operating room block utilization (the case minutes as a proportion of total blocked minutes assigned to a surgeon) by 12%. Additionally, the organization eliminated an auto-transfusion device from a number of cases, saving unnecessary process and cost without negatively impacting the procedure’s outcome.

The biggest long-term value of the applications they developed is the ability to use evidence-based medicine to create personalized care paths and predictive models to strengthen preventative medicine.

Digital Trailblazer: Vodafone

Leveraging the SAP Margin Assurance solution powered by SAP HANA has enabled Vodafone to obtain a granular view of customer profitability and provide fast detailed analytical capabilities in order to deliver significant value to the business. Vodafone is now able to identify tens of millions of previously unidentified revenue leakage points.

Process Simplifier: Lenovo

Lenovo contracted with SAP to help complete the IBM X86 server acquisition and replace the legacy IBM supply chain networks. In so doing, they initiated a project to enable X86 manufacturing capability and built an E2E supply chain IT platform in Lenovo’s existing PC plants in the US, Mexico, and China.

Next Generation Application: Stanford Medical School

Stanford Medical School is combining clinical, wearable, and genomics data to create the medical record of the future. The organization is enabling a greater understanding of the gene/variant connection to disease. Stanford is using clinical data from EMRs as a filter to prioritize genetic variants in the patient. Stanford is also making it easy for clinicians to consume and navigate genomic data to provide decision support for diagnosis and treatment.
