Part 2 is here Design Studio 1.1 CSA Webcast Platform Deployment Options – Part  2

This webcast is geared towards admin and developers so they understand how it fits in environment.

The usual disclaimer that future things are subject to change.

This blog covers consumption and authorizations and question and answer from the webcast.

Figure 2 covers running the application in local mode

In Design Studio there is a Web Server Jetty which is inside the Design Studio run-time with connectors to both BW and HANA.

BW uses SAPLOGON.ini or ODBC connections to HANA

Then you save on local file

Then right click execute locally, calls local web application server to retrieve from disk

Data is retrieved via TCP/IP and back to browser

Figure 3: Source: SAP

Figure 3 shows executing the application on the BI Platform.  The browser goes to BI Platform, connect via http, retrieve objects & connection info, application run on Java runtime on one more APS, data retrieved by connectors, and displayed on HTML output.

Figure 4: Source: SAP

If you execute locally, but are connected to BI Platform, a slightly different flow occurs displayed in Figure 4.

TCP is used connect to Data sources

Output is rendered via web server on Design Studio system

Portal uses RFC to retrieve images/style sheets from BW

NW Admin console, navigate to Portal permissions and provide access to applets or iViews published

Promotion in the Landscape

Figure 9: Source: SAP

Figure 9 covers promoting Design Studio through the landscape.  Anthony suggested keeping images & style sheets in a common area to manage easily

Figure 10: Source: SAP

Figure 10 shows promotion using the BI Platform.  In Promotion Management you need to create a job

He said to be sure the OLAP connection is promoted

OLAP connection has different server parameters

There is no auto dependency – so need to manually add images and style sheets to the promotion job

Question & Answer

Q: Patch 9 – are there notes we can apply if we’re on patch 8 (NetWeaver)

A: Not that he is aware of

Q: Is there a HANA native deployment option?

A: Not this year, but it is in the backlog of the roadmap
