Young talents at SAP Hungary
-part I.-

As the only Hungarian, Eszter Budaházy was selected to participate in the Sales Academy Program. This nine months long program gives mentoring, continuous learning, and extensive study trips to USA to learn on the latest sales and technological trends from first hand. This is a huge possibility for talents, the one who attends this program, might have a very quickly raising career at the world’s largest business software company.

Eszter just returned from her first, one month long trip from California.

- What did you learn in the USA?

- We have had a very intensive learning experience in the US, mostly related to four main areas that were sales skills, sales strategy and execution methodologies, business acumen and about SAP as a company and its products.

The approach of the academy is very customer centric, we are taught to put ourselves in our clients’ shoes, understand what challenges they face, what is truly important to them and how can we help them enhance their business outcomes. In order to do this, we have been taught a number of important skills to help us understand business fundamentals and KPIs that decision makers consider and how to start meaningful conversations about them.

-What was your most happy and least happy moment there?

-The Sales Academy has been an incredible experience, with many happy moments, so it’s hard to choose just one. It has certainly been an unforgivable moment when our team has won the Design Thinking Challenge and went on to present our idea to Rob Enslin (President at the Global Customer Operation) in front of the whole Academy.

My saddest moment was when I had to say goodbye to all the great people I met there, lot of whom I became friends with. This experience has bought the international team together and allowed us to learn so much from each other. We are still in contact every day, looking forward to going back and meeting in January.

-How is your daily routine look like in Hungary now?

-My daily routine in Hungary is quite varied, depending on what activities the sales team is focused on. My Hungarian Account Executive involves me in research he is doing for some accounts, but I also help out other Account Executives with demand generation activities, related to some previously untapped opportunities in existing accounts and new potential companies too. This allows me to learn a lot about different industries and different ways of approaching new deals.

- What would you say for a young talent, why is it worth to apply to this program?

- Without doubt, this program is the best in the sales field for young graduates interested in sales. Being able to spend three months in San Francisco is great, but the Academy is much more than that. It is a huge challenge, as the software sales field in the B2B market is complex, which requires a unique set
of skills and a lot of hard work to create and close a deal. What this program gives you is support and background that allows you to handle this challenge with a network of peers and an experienced mentor to guide you in the process of learning.

-What career do you imagine for yourself?

-I would like to learn more about companies’ challenges in the information age, understand their needs and be able to help them solve their issues and outperform themselves by using SAP products. The market SAP is in is one that offers a lot of opportunities to our customers. We enable companies to innovate, change business models for the better and become truly competitive in their market by streamlining processes, leveraging insights from Big Data or deploying cloud solutions.

My career aim is to become an expert at understanding the strategic impact software can have on business innovation and to be able to advise companies on these decisions. I believe a good sales person over time becomes a trusted advisor for a company, so my aim is to develop that kind of relationship with
my clients and be the one they turn to to help them run better.
