Nils Stock, Head of Technology Consulting from Freudenberg Sealing Technologies, gave us a few minutes of his time to discuss cloud based solutions and its future.

Freudenberg is a SAP Information Interchange OnDemand customer.

What does the cloud mean to you?

This is always a challenging question. It’s moved so far away from its literal definition --from the one in the sky. Recently, from a technical perspective, the cloud has allowed us to move our IT needs out of our organizations and hand them over to a provider that can host them better and provide better support. By moving them out, we can focus more on our core business and connect our systems to other services in the cloud.

In what ways have cloud based solutions helped you?

Before I moved to the cloud, my computer had crashed, and I lost a lot of files because I didn’t back them up. That was a real eye-opener, and that is when I turned to the cloud. Since then, my laptop has crashed again, but I have my files. This experience showed me that you can use the cloud in reliable ways.

What cloud based solutions do you use?

I use DropBox all the time. Our company uses SAP Information Interchange OnDemand. And of course, I use iCloud on my phone. That’s it at the moment, but I expect there will be more to come.

Where do you see the future of social and cloud headed?

We have to look at how it all started. At one point in time, Facebook was just a social service, and now it has entered the business world. But it has always been a cloud service; people post and shared information there.

In the future, most of the kids who are in school today will demand services and solutions like Facebook when they enter the workforce. I think that social is where these developments have emerged and that’s where we are going.

At some point, we will just utilize and pay for somebody else to handle services that we cannot do well ourselves.
