Welcome to the 2nd in a series of blogs to dispel myths about SAP and the Cloud. Today we will debunk the myth that SAP software is not appealing to end-users.

What is the origin? When SAP became the #1 Enterprise Business Software in the 80´s/ 90´s, adoption was driven by IT, not by the business user. The solution architecture was designed to solve fundamental enterprise challenges like finance, supply chain, human resources, customer relations to name a few. It was designed to run companies effectively and execute highly complex and highly customized individual processes. SAP provided solutions based on global best practice by optimizing the way companies work, to the point where 65% of the world´s GDP runs through a SAP systems. The focus was the enterprise.

Now that companies have achieved a rock-solid foundation for their business, a new people-centric trend has emerged. The focus has shifted to the users, reflecting their expectations – we call this the consumerization of IT. Easy access and consumption of IT services, combined with people collaboration, leads to fast decision-making.

Companies and therefor the IT industry, is undergoing a significant shift. By 2014, 47% of the workforce will be born after 1980, and by 2020 roughly 50% of the workforce will belong to the millennial generation. The workforce will be comprised of people who have never experienced school or business without web technology, smartphones and Facebook-like services and applications. And they will need to be on-boarded fast. They want to collaborate, as this is how they grew up in their social networks. Now solutions need to reflect this, and also engage with the Generation Y and the baby boomers. Collaborating, but with a business flavor…

SAP is easy to use - here are the facts

SAP combines it’s achievements in business expertise over the past decades with the newly emerged focus on people and how they work. We do this in on-premise (check out SAP Fiori), and even more so in the cloud portfolio. Our next generation cloud portfolio is delivered with a “mobile first” development approach and a consumer-like user experience.  Social collaboration is embedded in our product design. And we run hundreds of design-thinking and co-innovation workshops around the globe to engage the end user in our user interface designs.

More than 30 million subscribers to SAP Cloud Services experience it every day. The result speaks for itself.

The SAP cloud portfolio has been designed and developed the way people work. It promotes fluid team collaboration and business agility.

The solution design allows increased context decision-making and helps our customers run better and faster.

We are looking forward meeting you again.
