The second in a new blog series, sharing SAP customers' business cases for cloud solutions.

Recently an important player in the banking industry subscribed to SAP Financial Services Network. Their goal is new service innovation and to reinforce its position as a leader in digital banking.

The SAP Financial Services Network is an cloud based solution designed to simplify the interaction of financial institutions with their corporate clients. The network, hosted by SAP, will include bank routing, data transformation, on-boarding, provisioning and monitoring capabilities as well as provide access to the analytic capabilities embodied in it's SAP HANA architecture.

Business Challenge

The bank's challenge was a missing platform for data integration and real time processing when working with different corporate clients (heterogeneous formats, documents and security protocols). Multiple point-to-point connections caused high costs and the inability to scale business with further corporate clients. As a result they haven´t been able to offer new differentiating services and their time to revenue has been delayed.

Banks have to deal with frequent changes in the master data structure of connected customers.  Since the financial crisis the regulatory and compliance efforts have increased and these costs and resource intensive maintenance drove the need to redesign the processes.

Expected Solution

The main requirements of the bank’s Treasury & Trade departments have been cost-efficiency, security and process flexibility for rapidly connecting via a resilient platform. Optimized cash management operations should enhance relationships with corporate clients.

Furthermore the customer desired an integration of different business processes along the financial supply chain to exchange financial data rapidly.  Driving centralization, standardization and automation on the one hand and reduce operational costs and resources on the other without additional hardware and software investments, have been another key requirement.

Result

Co-Inventing the SAP Financial Services Network, the bank now has the ability to rapidly grow its corporate client base enabled through a single integration platform to 1000s of companies. Running on a secure and scalable multi-tenant system, which is fully deployed in the cloud, delivers the desired scale. Funds visibility and cash forecasting have been improved significantly as they now run dedicated transaction channels and one shared gateway to corporate clients. This allows a zero footprint at the IT department because the local ERP System directly connects to FSN in the cloud - no additional systems, thus no additional investments in hardware, software and people.

The main advantage of the solution is the scale.  You connect once and reach out to any number of companies, performed in a highly secured fashion, hosted, managed and maintained by SAP, build on the SAP HANA Cloud Platform.
