I’ve often blogged about SAP job offerings and the associated insights into SAP strategy. I haven’t looked at these job offerings in a while, so I did a quick search of new openings and found a few interesting ones.
Usually, the HANA Enterprise Cloud (HEC) is associated with traditional SAP applications (Business Suite, BW, etc). Recent job offers suggest, however, that the application-centric focus of the platform may be changing. In particular, the offering for “Software Engineer – SAP Mobile Secure – Cloud Operations” demonstrates that an evolution of the platform is occurring.
SAP Mobile Secure provides solution for securing hardware, applications, and content. IT no longer needs to integrate multiple point solutions. With SAP Mobile Secure, enterprises optimize the mobile experience for users and protect the organization by providing security for devices, applications, content, and network. SAP Mobile Secure Cloud version runs on the managed enterprise-class cloud environment powered by HANA - SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud.
The products SAP Mobile Secure and SAP Mobile Secure Cloud already exist in the marketplace. Previously, however, such Afaria -based mobile frameworks in the Cloud were usually associated with AWS or provided by partners in their private clouds. The shift of SAP Mobile Secure Cloud to HEC means that customers will now be able to combine the managed service for applications with a managed service of mobile apps / devices that use these HEC-hosted applications.
A job offer for "Development Architect for Supply Chain Planning" shows that new applications are coming to the HEC.
The candidate will support SAP Supply Chain Planning development in the area of Supply and Response Planning with a strong focus on design and architecture of high performing planning algorithms.
The planning procedures are characterized by innovative and flexible configuration, high scalability concerning the volume to be planned (procedure efficiency), broad functionality and seamless integration into the SCM applications. The solution will natively exploit SAP’s state-of-the-art HANA application platform and HANA Enterprise Cloud.
I’d be interested to know whether this application will be available on OnPremise as well as in the Cloud.
A job offer for "IT Cloud Vulnerability and Threat Senior Specialist/Expert" provides details on how the organization responsible for cloud security is structured at SAP.
The department CID Security, Processes & Compliance Office (SPCO), is responsible globally for the IT Security and Compliance Management Framework of SAP Cloud (incl. HEC, SFSF, ARIBA and ByD/CO) and BI&AS.
CID SPCO provides leading security, process management, compliance and risk services to enable SAP to be the best-run Enterprise Cloud Company
For me, the interesting aspect is that this department is product- independent (“HEC, SFSF, ARIBA and ByD/CO”) - this is another sign that the different cloud offerings from SAP are coalescing into one cohesive whole. Though this unison, the management of these environments becomes more efficient which – in the long term- reduces operational costs and, hopefully, as a consequence, the prices on the associated products.
A job offering for a Senior Director Product Management – SAP HANA platform, Internet of Things provides some details about SAP’s Internet of Things (IoT) strategy.
As we develop our new strategic Internet of Things Enablement Services for the HANA Platform, the Business Information Technology (BIT) IoT Product Management team is currently seeking a Senior Director Product Manager with a focus on establishing strategic partnerships and business development across selected industry verticals in the North American region. This strategic role provides an exciting opportunity to shape the business foundation for SAP’s engagement in the Internet of Things market.
Expectations
- Manage and interact with partners to ensure smooth implementation and effective adoption of our HANA based Internet of Things solution
- Define and build a functional partnering program for device, telecom and software partners to build a market leading eco-system for SAP around Internet of Things Business Development
What is interesting in this job offering is the emphasis of the IoT ecosystem (for example, the deal with Ericsson) as well as the mention of a “Internet of Things Enablement Services for the HANA Platform” - could this be similar to a RDS for IoT?
