SAPPHIRENOW this year will be richly interspersed with a huge amount of sessions. And cloud will be everywhere to simplify consumption models and customer experience. Cloud will help customers transform their business into the digital age to drive faster results.

If it comes to the SAP Public Cloud portfolio we have seen a significant push from Line of businesses during the past months. Solutions such as Cloud for Travel and Expense, Cloud for Customer or Cloud for People were on many LOB Executives minds when they reached out to innovate their departments. With cloud, LOB Executives are often off the Companies investment process as they start and create a POC on operational expenditure – sometimes on their own.

On the other side does the Public Cloud delivery model perfectly serve for a single-application ERP in the cloud. The classical buying center is IT as ERP is often seen as part of the IT infrastructure.

SAP ByD is designed for customers can simply configure and use to run their entire business from the cloud. This is specifically appropriate to the requirements of midsized Enterprises, but also applies very well to subsidiaries or divisions of larger enterprises, HILTI, Lufthansa SHELL or Grainger – just to name a few strong brands.

“SAP Business ByDesign is an end-to-end cloud ERP application for midsized enterprises or for subsidiaries of larger enterprises that want to run their entire business on single, homogenous cloud application for 50 to 500 users”

Chris Horak, Global Vice President of Product Marketing

The market place told lots of rumors since October 2013 about SAP business by Design. Here are the facts of where we are and where we are going: During the last 9 month was the SAP Business ByDesign development focused on leveraging SAP´s ONE Platform Strategy. Since early 2014, all new SAP ByD customers are on the SAP HANA Database. Hundreds of improvements have been delivered on top of the architectural remodeling to make the Cloud ERP even more attractive (further details can be found here: http://help.sap.com/byd-en/). Another focus area have been integration scenarios (ByD with Business Suite) and the customer localization toolkit.

For 2014/15 the roadmap has the following focus areas:

  • further leverage the SAP HANA Cloud Platform
  • Continue to deliver/improve capabilities for services, distribution and manufacturing industries.
  • Further strengthen the software development kit
  • More subsidiary scenarios
  • Continue a broad Co-Innovation with Customers

Today it’s more important than ever to understand customers in the context of their business. All of us have to own our client´s loyalty again and again when they are ready to do a purchase. Put the customer in the center of your activities and deliver value is key.
