This is Awesome !!!

The Aero Design Challenge introduces students to the engineering design process with a series of Museum-based, aerodynamics-themed inspiration experiences, then launches them into a mission to design, test, and present a prototype of an engineering vehicle designed to meet a specific design requirement.

This year’s program theme explores the aerodynamics of propellers.  The exploration experience will include discovery stations throughout the Museum, including propeller evaluation, wind tunnel testing, flight simulation and more.  Participants will then design, build and test a propeller of their own design able to provide sufficient thrust to propel a test vehicle across a designated distance.

The Design Challenge is designed for students grades 4-8. You can bring your kids as well of course!.

In its fourth year, the Aero Design Challenge takes on aircraft efficiency. With fuel economy and aircraft noise key issues in civil aerospace, is it possible to design a quieter, more efficient propulsion system that will make for friendlier, more accessible flight?

Working in teams of aspiring engineers and supported by industry experts, students will experience the trials and tribulations of working in the aerospace industry.

The 2.5 hour hands-on program will include an hour of exploration in museum-based inspiration stations to learn the skills and tools students need to complete the final 1.5 hour design and prototyping session.
