Understanding your end-user’s needs is key to excellent design. But what is the best method to understanding your end-users? Surely, they think the same as you – right? Often we forget that our expectations of how somebody else uses our end product is completely different to the reality. To understand your end-user and to deliver the best user experience for your target group, you and your team need to carry out design or user research.
With this new openSAP course, Basics of Design Research, you will get an introduction to the role of design research in your planning and execution, especially in the field of software design. The purpose of design research is to create an empathy for your end-users and to uncover users’ needs. Your end-users can tell you their requirements but some are subconscious needs that users don’t even realize exist. This course will explain terms that are commonly associated with design research, as well as looking at the steps in detail. The course will explain the benefits of a field visit, observing your end-users in their natural habitat, as well as looking at the tools and key roles involved in the design research process. You will also learn how to analyze the data collected during your research, and how to synthesize and make sense out of the data by creating persona and point of views.
In week 2, you will have the opportunity to take part in an exercise, including peer assessment where you will be required to create a profile for your end-user.

New content will be released on a weekly basis and if you would like to earn a Record of Achievement, you will be required to complete assignments according to a weekly deadlines and participate in the peer assessment during week 2.
