Hello,

Cricket world cup 2015 (Cricket World Cup 2015 - ICC Cricket | Official Website) is already halfway. While we are enjoying the matches, I thought of analyzing the World Cup records and do some match results prediction based on team's performance.

I developed a HANA xs application which is using xsjs services to get data from HANA and using various open source libraries (mbostock/stack · GitHub, Sly , D3.js - Data-Driven Documents and http://jquery.com/ ) for User Interface.

Application is active on HANA Cloud Portal, check out:

https://s3hanaxs.hanatrial.ondemand.com/s0011766995trial/hihanaxs/WC2015/CWC2015Statistics.html

If you like the application and would like to know steps involved, please keep reading.

First Step

I started analyzing all time top batsmen for all world cups. I found most of the data on Records | ESPN Cricinfo and Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

List of top batsmen at cricket world cups - snapshot:

This data in presented in following dashboard

Second Step

Got a list of World Cup 2015 matches schedule and collected following data:

- Team's performance against each other

- Team's performance at the ground

- Team's ICC ranking

Team's performance - snapshot:

* g_wins: Wins at that ground, o_wins: Winnings against opponent

This analysis is presented as following dashboard

Third Step

And finally match predictions. this prediction is based on simple calculation (working on HANA PAL version).

Thanks for reading this blog, your feedback is highly appreciated.

Regards,

Amit Gupta
