Hi folks, haven't been here in a while but I've been busy producing some content for the upcoming ISUG-TECH 2015 conference in Atlanta.  I would've posted this earlier but there is a blog on the ISUG site (For my OCS Programmer's Workshop) and I am going to list the descriptions of my content here. I will perform demos in each of the sessions as I feel the demo is most important.  Something you can take away with you and try on your own, that sort of thing.

The jConnect Tutorial, Monday at 3:30pm (2 hours), a nice intro to the jConnect world. I will provide information regarding the java, JDBC and jConnect environment, version information and how to build the included samples. I'll even throw in some nice template java source code to demonstrate executions and parameters, suitable to be used as templates for writing more code. This one will be a nice way to break-in to the jConnect world.  Stay tuned for blog entries based off this content and a similar article I wrote for the ISUG Tech Journal (A jConnect Tutorial: An introduction to JDBC programming for SAP ASE; a two-parter in Nov/Dec 2014 issue). I have a feeling you won't be scared of jConnect anymore after this.  However, once you get through this part you might become addicted to JDBC!

OpenClient/Server Programming Workshop, Tuesday at 2:30pm (3.5 hours), a series of modules and info slides to assist the programmer learning Open Client and Open Server. The other two presentations I had already started before signing up for the conference but this one I thought about and decided to bite the bullet and spent hours and hours at night putting together a hands-on work-shop for learning about Open Client (and Server) programming. You come in with Visual Studio (2010/2012/2013 - either works, and 2013 Express is a free download), ASE SDK 15.7 or 16.0 and hopefully an accessible ASE, and we will create projects of some key samples.  I like the GUI interface in Visual Studio as I love the navigation features to cruise through the code. I will also provide applications I've picked up on my Sybase/SAP journey, one of them is a stressor application that you can use to wail on the ASE. Hey, don't blame me if you bring it to a screeching halt! I'll touch on the Open Server samples (sorry these are not freebies, just the SDK) and also a test application I learned to create when I took Open Client Programming training back in 1996 (or was it 1997? Shoot - I can't remember!). It's like ISQL and teaches one how to write applications with the SDK API.

TDS: Binding between Client and Server, Wednesday at 10:30am (2 hours)

This one is for anyone.  I’ll break open the TDS specification in terms to enable the user to understand this protocol and how to use the knowledge to troubleshoot and understand the banter going on between client and ASE. I really get into the nitty-gritty and provide the insight into the TDS protocol so a developer can learn to use it to trouble-shoot and diagnose as well as learn how the client and server interact. It's a lot of slides (and I won't bore you by reading every single one!) which will be suitable as a reference.

After the ISUG conference I will start posting tidbits on ASE connectivity, covering OCS, ADO.NET, ODBC and jConnect. Also, as the scripts (python, perl and php) become more popular I can provide information on that as well. Feel free to comment and/or email me (paul.vero@sap.com) to provide topics to cover and feedback - whatever!
