SAP HANA Cloud Platform, smart data streaming (SDS) is now available.  This provides the same powerful streaming analytics capabilities as SAP HANA smart data streaming, now available as an add-on service to SAP HANA in HCP.

One of the areas where we are seeing the strongest interest in the streaming analytics capability of SDS is for the Internet of Things, where SDS can turn raw incoming message streams into useful information.  As part of the release of SDS in HCP,  HCP IoT Services has been enhanced with the addition of an SDS Processing Service, allowing you to configure IoT Services to stream specific message types to SDS for realtime processing and analysis.

SDS complements IoT Services with the ability to process, analyze and transform incoming messages in real-time.  Typical uses include:

  • Filter, sample or aggregate incoming data to reduce the amount of data being persisted
  • Determine what data to persist in SAP HANA - storing only high value information in in-memory tables
  • Analyze incoming data to detect situations that require a response. Generate an alert, notify an application, or initiate an immediate response

For information on how to set-up SDS on your SAP HANA system in HCP, see the HCP documentation - SAP HANA Development.  And since this is the same technology as the SAP HANA Platform, refer to standard SAP HANA smart data streaming documentation for information on building, deploying and managing SDS projects.  All management of SDS projects in HCP are via the HANA Cockpit.
