Successfactors LMS was totally a new topic a few months back. First time I saw successfactors LMS is for nominating myself for our yearly courses.

Opportunity for Successfactors LMS came when there was a requirement to rollout a series of courses through this, as LMS access is available for all  and it’s more secure.

.The most important requirement was preventing download or printing of this course material.

We evaluated many options with the help of LMS support team.

Initial we were under the impression that if we remove the downloadable option checkbox against the online courseware, the course material cannot be downloaded.

With help of support team we added the courseware, but then we realized that this doesn’t work.

This was the solution that SAP suggested, but since we cannot control IE setting of users, we couldn’t use that.

“This checkbox just means the content can be potentially downloadable when offline player is enable for the item (Settings->Available for offline player checked). You can basically ignore it, it is read-only. What you explain about the user able to download the PPT file is a browser setting, check PPT plugin for IE... It is not related to 'Download' checkbox.”

Another option that came in was using SCROM/AICC for developing course. But because of cost factors we couldn’t adopt that path even though it has many advantages.

Then we tried many odd options like converting to PPS, PDF with SAVE disabled, video etc.

Every time the issue was its having SAVE as option. PPS was getting opened in the PPT editable mode.

Finally we understood the fact that in this version there isn’t a way for the content to be non-downloadable. SAP is planning to address this in future version that is what I heard.

The LMS support team also checkout many options. Finally they suggested storing the content in JAM group. So we uploaded all our courseware (PRINT disabled PDF files) in JAM group with read-only mode.

Then gave this Jam group course links in the quiz initial screen with the delimiter to read the documents before attending the quiz.  Passing the quiz will mark the completion of the course.

Course Nomination could be done by Manager for their team. They have to get the Jam group access and Manager Approval to complete the course.
