Since I’m not a Nakisa expert and I have to learn a lot of things I decided to share with you the results of all search and all answers I have found concerning my needs.

This article’s content may be obvious sometimes for advanced Nakisa consultants but it can help many others (at least I hope).

Because of confidential information, all the Nakisa screens presented here are painted.

My goal in this article is to help you to find what is possible in Nakisa Succession Planning 3.0 SP3 based on my little experience. Most of customizations here are product enhancements.

Button customization

If you are about to create a specific section, you’ll need to build buttons in order to create/delete/modify your data. You can use a button or an icon. All the standard icons can be changed. This is not a good thing in my opinion to change all of them but it can be great if you have other applications with different icons and you want Nakisa to match this application.

Note: You can add a roll-over label on your button/icon to make it understandable (Grey illustration).

Data sort ability in tables

Data sort ability is defined by Nakisa and cannot be changed by the end user (it’s possible in EHP5 tables). If you want to add columns (in a specific table or not) you can modify the order of appearance of the rows below. This change is set by a specific development.

Open VSN Application at a specific node or listing

If you have the SAP EHP5 portal and you want to add a direct link with Nakisa, it’s possible. You can even set the Nakisa application you want to open. More than that, you can set the ObjectID to open in Nakisa. You can find a great Wiki written by Stephen Burr on this page: https://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/ERPHCM/Open+VSN+Application+at+a+Specific+Node+or+Listing

What is not said in this article is that you can even set a link called “Manage successor of this position” who directly point on the succession plan of this position. It’s very useful when you have made a search on SAP portal and you want to link results with Nakisa.

Specify the tab you want to open first

Basically when you open a Nakisa window with tabs, you can set up the tab you want to open first. It cannot be specified in the previous point (direct link). Every time you’ll access to this window it will open the first tab you set.

Open a panel with collapsed sections

When you open a Nakisa panel with sections, you can set which section is collapse or not. When you’ll open the panel again, it will collapse/expand the sections as defined.

Specific Profile Match

The need of my client was to compare identified successors of a position with the profile match. This is a standard Nakisa functionality you probably say. But, we made it specific because we added a button on successors list to open the profile match directly with the successors list (limited to 3 successors).

For example, if the identified successors of the position “CEO” are Bill Gates, Steve Jobs and Chuck Norris, on the click of this button, it opens the profile match with those 3 successors. So I can compare easily which one suits more to this position (based on specific competencies evaluation too). If you don’t have a specific competencies evaluation you can simply use the standard profile match.

Specific popup/pop in

You can change specific pop in/popup or add new ones. Pop up can be Nakisa popup or WDA pop up.

Identify reciprocal hypothesis

You can identify in Succession plans and in development plans, hypothesis that are both for the position and the person.

For example:

Chuck Norris is identified as a successor in the Succession plan of the position “CEO”.

In his development plan, he’s got an evolution hypothesis to this position too.

In both development and succession plan of this person/position, you can add a specific column with an icon that informs you that there is a reciprocal hypothesis (Red circled)

  • Reciprocity icon is generated based on criteria. If both hypothesis has the same  “Postion/employee” and the same “Trim. / year” so, they are reciprocals

Create hypothesis from an opposite plan

We created a tab in the development plan where you can see all the positions that have this worker as a successor. With a specific button (red circled) you can create an evolution hypothesis for this worker to the position selected. It helps the manager in his work; it gives him ideas to build his employee’s career.

Delete at the same time reciprocal hypothesis

If you are working on a succession plan and you want to delete a successor, you can also delete the reciprocal evolution hypothesis of the selected person in his development plan (If authorizations permit you to manage the employee’s development plan). In order to do that we added a specific pop in where you can choose to delete the hypothesis based on defined (and not changeable) criteria (Same year, trim., priority means the hypothesis are reciprocals).

Search / Advanced search criteria

You can add/remove criteria on this window based on your needs.

Bench Strength customization

The Bench Strength is a standard functionality and you can easily change it with a BAdI. This is detailed on SAP’s website: http://help.sap.com/erp2005_ehp_05/helpdata/en/77/0b63da8695468eaeb736550bc9c1bf/content.htm

Profile Match icon identification

On the profile match you can compare people based on competencies (successor vs. position). Our client has different status of competencies:

  • Declared by the worker (based on previous jobs) à
  • Evaluated (by a manager) à

In the profile match you can identify those different states with a specific icon. In our screen, the icon means that the competencies are evaluated.

Create different development plans and archive them for each person

We added status to development plans so we can manage different development plans.

In some companies, you can have only one development plan every year. The need was to set status to identify which hypothesis were approved on a selected year AND which development plan has been approved (You can approve a development plan without any approved hypothesis, you just approve that there is not any available evolution for this employee).

In each development plan, hypotheses have an independent status. They can be approved, rejected or drafted.

With this functionality you can display the whole employee evolution life in the company, approved or not. When you manage your employee career, it could be interesting to know previous hypothesis of his development plans and the status of them.

Summary

With all those enhancements/customizations I hope it will help you to answer better to your client’s needs and on “What is possible in Nakisa”. What we expect of a Nakisa consultant is mainly based on 2 points:

  • You know what Nakisa standard offers you
  • You know how you can enhance the product (and how to define the workload on it)

After that you’ll just need to know when to use it!
