Hi guys, in this blog I will report my review of the InnoJam Madrid that took place on Saturday 6th November and ended a day after (30 hours of coding later) with the victory of my team carbonTNT.
Don't you know what InnoJam is about? I will not explain here but I suggest you to watch this video by rui.nogueira
The beginning
The story began at "the idea presentation" after the introduction by benjamin.wesson of the SAP Carbon Impact platform, gregor.wolf and phil.loewen took the stage and presented their project born few minutes before. It was so exacting and the passion that these guys gave to their idea was the success key.
The team
In the next 15 minutes InnoJam attendees had the possibility to interact with others in order to choose the team they would be part of. Finally, we were a team of 10 people, with different skills: Architecture, ABAP, BW, HR, Mobile and Integration from five different countries: Germany, Finland, Greece, Italy and Denmark.
An impressive capability to adapt to collaboration was displayed from the very beginning by every member, and the teamwork was lifted with a few but powerful personal skills everyone had in common: communication and interaction, creativity and quality and ability to have fun while working.
A combined strategy of "common overview", "divide and conquer" and "communication and interaction" was the team approach that made it possible for 3 sub-teams to be productive and cooperate at the same time with complex interfaces and integrations.

The competition
After 30 hours of no-stop coding, sleeping only few hours we finally arrived to the presentation and in front of a super jury all the projects were presented. We added some more feelings to our presentation with an amazing background music (TNT by AC/DC) and an outstanding improvisation by gregor.wolf.
It was incredible, I saw a lot of good projects in this InnoJam and I was not confident that our project could be one of the first three places; but, fortunately, I was wrong because we won!
For the first time of ever, InnoJam winner project had the possibility to concur for the victory of the DemoJam.
In order to be more competitive in this competition during the first day of TechEd, between an hands-on and a lecture, all the team members tried to add more functionalities to the application: twitter integration, read Carbon Impact data, carbon impact monitoring for Madrid attendees and site restyling.
It was a greeat competion, several great DemoJam projects. Our carbonTNT finally got the 3rd place and considering that this project was created by never met before people and in only 30 hours was a great success!
It was a great experience, maybe the best during the entire SAP TechEd in Madrid: work in a team of people never met before for 30 consecutive hours and create an application to present at the InnoJam finals and win.
For sure next year, work constrains excluded, I will join again to this event and for sure I will concur for the victory either in InnoJam or DamoJam!
