"What should I wear for SAP Inside Track?"

I remember this to be the most frequently asked question of me when I was organizing the first SAP Inside Track in Vancouver. I don't know why. Perhaps Vancouverites are just a bit more fashion-self-conscious?!

Well, that's changed in the past 4 years I've been hosting SAP Inside Track. Although I do get the occasional question about attire, can you believe that I now get asked most frequently "How can I join in and help out?"

I've given a shout-out to the talented graphic designers who've stepped forward to help Pimp my logo for SAP Inside Track Vancouver. I would like to further call out contributors who have made this BIG DATA event theme ring true!

Kirsten Sutton is one of our biggest supporters, offering the beautiful Executive Briefing Centre for the event (and feeding us). Behind the scenes is the EBC Manager, Rachel Floyd, who made everyone's experience positive! And our event emcee from the local Toastmasters club was Foroohar Rafiei. You can see the names of volunteers and contributors on the event page.

Dr. Jian Pei from Simon Fraser University's Computing Science department kicked off the day with a "Big Data 101" session. I knew this wasn't going to be the typical school lecture when he started off with a quote of Dan Ariely's comparison of Big Data to teenage s-e-x :

  • everyone talks about it,
  • nobody really know how to do it,
  • everyone thinks everyone else is doing it,
  • so everyone claims they are doing it.

Another memorable moment was SAP Mentor alumnus, Rob Jackson of Dolphin Corp, who donned his SAP Mentor shirt to shared tips and tricks in preparing for SAP HANA, especially with archiving.

Nic Smith also showed off Mitesh Patel's trailer of Data Geek 2.0 - The Rise of Dark Data (a must-see), and encouraged participants to download a free version of SAP Lumira, and How to Join The Data Geek Challenge.

You can view all session recordings from our Big Data speakers on the SAP Inside Track Vancouver 2013 event page. We can thank Janelle Berry for recording the sessions!

The 2nd most frequently asked question I get asked? "When is the next SAP Inside Track?"

Answer: I don't know yet. Let's think about a theme first!

In the meantime, check out this video by Frankie Ng
