Hi All!

Thanks to the experience I had in my first ever SAP technical event outside my ‘work-area’ that I am made to write my first blog on SCN!

Since the day I read about the post of the event on SCN that mentioned my very own city as the venue, I was enthusiastically looking forward to it!

Introduction:

SIT SAP Inside Track Hyderabad 2014 was basically divided into 3 tracks as most of you might already be knowing. These tracks were: Technical, Analytical and Functional. While registering for the event I didn’t think twice for selecting the option ‘technical’. Because that’s what my area of interest will always be. But after looking at all the topics at the event in other tracks, I would not be lying if I said I wanted to attend each of those!
Being a fresher, I had just heard about all those topics and never really went into a lot of detail. And here I had a chance to grab those topics from experts in SAP.

Notes:

And now I would like to share some of the important learnings I came across as the session went through till the end.

1.     1.SAP FIORI Overview and Demo

·         SAP FIORI is basically a collection of apps with a simple and friendly experience for broadly and frequently used SAP software functions that work seamlessly across devices – desktop, tablet, or Smartphone.

·         Role-based, Coherent, Responsive, Simple and Instant-value are its main characteristics.

·         Its architecture to similar to BSP.

·         Knowledge of ABAP, Gateway and UI5/HTML with JavaScript is required to start hands on FIORI.

·         Security is a very important aspect of it.

·         A similar product to FIORI is SAP Persona. But it is not available across devices like FIORI.

·         This is available only online for now.

The session was very well presented which included a demo too. I found it very articulate and crisp enough to justify the timings.

2.     2.SAP UI5 Application to track SAP project Deployments

·         This application is basically used to get an overview of a project progress and more details.

·         Developers, Project team as well as the QA team make use of this application.

·         Technical scope of this application:

Last layer forms the runtime environment and second and third layers form the SAP UI5 Application Development.

·         Basic flow:

·       The Demo of the application showed the basic tabs in which the main screen is divided. They were: Tracking tool, Reports, Code review, Integration, reference.

It gave information like, which reports have reached Quality or Production; which have code errors, etc.

1.                   3.MDG: Custom Data Model Implementation

·         MDG is the abbreviation for Master Data Governance.

·         It is an out-of-the-box, domain-specific SAP provided software. It is used to streamline business process and for implementing fresh Master data to SAP. It is used to create, maintain, and replicate master data across domains.

·         It follows the cycle:
   Maintain -> Validate -> Approve -> Replicate -> Adapt

·         Benefits of the software include:

o    Business Improvements

o    Process centric applications

o    Integration with existing business logic

o    Flexibility

·         Key Factors while implementing the software:

·         Important property of MDG which differentiates it from MDM is that it uses very user and developer friendly ABAP stack, whereas MDM uses Java Stack.

·         Knowledge of OOPS-ABAP, ABAP, IDCOS/SOA, Web Dynpo, Workflows are required to start hands on MDG.

·         Important things to be taken care of

o    BRF related development to be saved in TR instead of a local object

o    First freeze Data Model before making BRFs.

o    Staging tables i.e. temporary tables created during date mode, needs to be dynamic.

o    Make use of data elements wherever possible, instead of using a free domain.

o    Post exits implementation should be used instead of Implicit Implementation   Enhancement.

This session was the most interactive among all. The presenters were very clear about the concepts and also they provided a good set of lessons they learnt and issues they faced when they worked for MDG.

     4. ABAP on HANA

                         ·         It is associated by the paradigm: Accelerate, Extend, Innovate

Main roles of ABAP on HANA:

      o    SAP Business Suite

      o    SAP Net weaver BW

      o    New applications

   ·        ABAP 7.4 facilities leveraging SAP HANA features.
The way ABAP is optimized for HANA:

o    Deeper and better Migration

o    Better and delightful UI

o    Relative Analysis

·         Benefits over traditional ABAP:

o    It makes use of in-memory computing. This facilitates use of Code-Push down, which means delegating calculations/accesses to the database layer.

o    In ABAP its sequential execution that is followed. Whereas, ABAP HANA serves parallel execution, which makes it faster too.

o    It is activated in kernel, i.e. Production System

o    Database procedures proxies are available

o    Features Advanced Open SQL which facilitates Extended JOIN support, support for literals and code-pushdown

o    HANA is Insert only database, by a technical view.

o    No indexes are into picture.

This was the session I was waiting the most for. And the content too was justifiable. The presenter was very articulate and to the point. This was followed by an interactive Q/A session again.

The information shared here is quite restricted to my experience and prepared notes and may not cover all that was presented.

Later, a few more sessions followed.

Conclusion:

And this brought the core part of the event to an end. It was indeed a very fruitful dose of knowledge for my brain, to know about so much of SAP’s latest tools and technologies.

Any event is incomplete without the opportunity to meet new people and interact with them. We had a chance to meet the presenters, organizers directly at the last part of the event. This included a small tea break and networking with the crowd that ended with feedback and Announcement of Winner presenters. J

The success of the event was easily intelligible from the faces and feedback. Finally the day ended with contentment of knowledge and hopes for having more such events coming forward.
