How can we apply the lessons we've learned in business to prepare high school and college students for careers in technologyJoin us for a special SAPPHIRE NOW Orlando round table May 14.

Although I suspect your SAPPHIRE NOW agenda is filling up quickly, I wanted to mention an "Education-oriented" event organized by the SAP Corporate Social Responsibility group.  On Tuesday, May 14 from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. EST, we're inviting SAP customers with an interest in learning to participate in a special round table discussion about how we can apply the lessons we've learned in the business world to prepare high school and college students for successful careers in technology.

By 2018, it’s projected there will be 1.4 million new science, technology, engineering, and mathematics jobs available in the United States.  Yet today we’re only graduating 60,000 students a year to fill these positions.  SAP is experiencing the effects shortfall right now, as are most businesses that rely on a highly skilled workforce.

Because we want all students to have an opportunity to succeed, at SAPPHIRE NOW SAP will announce a Signature Initiative designed to help more students earn degrees that prepare them for careers in technology fields.  At the Tuesday roundtable, we'll discuss your ideas for addressing the questions guiding this initiative. Questions like:

  • What skills do graduates need to succeed in business today?
  • Have you pioneered innovative education approaches that could be applied in our schools?
  • How can we prepare students in underserved communities to build successful careers?

The event takes place in the SAP Corporate Social Responsibility booth, South Hall Exhibit A, in the Design Thinking and User Experience section.  To register, please contact Jackie Montesinos Suarez, Head of Corporate Social Responsibility for SAP North America (jackie.montesinos.suarez@sap.com).
