With over 25,000 attending live and over 250,000 attending online, SAPPHIRE NOW 2014 was off to a great start! Three inspiring millennials kicked off the opening keynote and shared their stories of how they each embraced innovation and shed light on how it can come from anywhere and in any form. With that, SAP CEO Bill McDermott took the stage to discuss the importance of reducing complexity, and shared SAP’s bold vision for the future; a dream for a simpler world, a simpler SAP and a simpler customer experience. With the idea simplicity, Bill announced a few things that will help bring simplicity to SAP customers:

The keynote closed and followed with a live press conference right in Theater 1. This was a great opportunity for press and analysts to ask questions, and for attendees to watch and listen live from the show floor.

Moving on to the huge show floor (picture 11 American football fields side by side!), it was filled with many different areas of focus. Given that this is my very first SAPPHIRE NOW experience, I want to highlight some amazing parts of the show floor:

This year, there is a "Downtown" area in the south side of the convention center. This area is where the Theater sessions are. In and around the Downtown area, you'll see some trees that represent a "recharge" area. Pretty awesome space for people to relax, recharge their mobile devices, and socialize.

You'll also see a few "Take a break" areas like the one photographed above where people can hang out, eat their lunch, socialize, and simply take a break.

One crowded station near the Downtown area is the Fiori Café. You can learn all things SAP Fiori here, as well as get a FRESH cup of coffee (yes, they will brew this in front of you).

Moving away from Downtown area, there are 3 campuses focused on specific topic areas: Platform & Technology, Lines of Business, and Industries.

There is so much more to see on this show floor and day 1 of my first SAPPHIRE NOW was amazingly insightful; I am looking forward to the next to days to follow.
