What may sound like another fun round of bu...zzword bingo is actually the high level description of an exciting approach - the SAP Innovation Control Center. Of course this is also available in short - the ICC.

So what is it about in a nutshell? The ICC is located at the customer's site. The ICC approach begins by leveraging SAP solution best practices. It eliminates unnecessary modifications of SAP standard solutions and interfaces by up to 90%. The Innovation Control Center also provides customer guidance for interface and integration design with multiple SAP and non-SAP components, thereby reducing the risks associated with integration, data consistencies, managing performance and scalability, and managing custom code. At the outset of an implementation or innovation project, the ICC can help you build SAP like a factory with quick, cost-effective, and modification-free implementations.

Sounds pretty neat. In addition, the whole control center approach also includes the Operations Control Center (OCC) and the Mission Control Center (MCC). Let me just briefly explain the key puropse of these other two concepts. After the go-live, the ICC transitions to the OCC which is also located at the customer's site. The OCC helps to ensure that your software solutions run efficiently and to drive continuous improvements. Both, the ICC and the OCC are connected in real time to dedicated MCCs that are located at SAP locations. Running behind the scenes, the Mission Control Centers connect your teams with SAP experts, providing proactive identification and fast resolution of your potential issues.

At SAPPHIRE NOW 2014, the whole control center approach was extensively showcased, e.g. at the SAP ONE Support Center and at the Campus Launch Pad areas. Here's a picture taken during an live MCC & OCC demo:

In addition, several support related demo theatre presentations featured this methodology. I especially liked the session that sixto.castro from the SAP Active Global Support organization was running at the SAP ONE Support Center. Here's a picture taken during Sixto's demo where he's higlighting some of the benefits that the ICC provides - e.g. 40% less time & effort compared to traditional implementation projects:

I talked to Sixto after his session and he was also willing to do a short video interview with me on the ICC approach. Please check it out:
