The Internet of Things Is Everywhere – and Powered By SAP HANA

In my last blog, I provided my personal insights on the keynote address at SAPPHIRE NOW. Even after the keynote ended, I couldn't resist flipping over to the press and analyst channel to catch some great commentary from SAP Platforms & Solutions executive Steve Lucas.

He spoke about SAP HANA Cloud Platform and how new features are being added to support the Internet of Things (IoT). Even Siemens joined in the fun to showcase some cool innovations and how IoT provides whole new business possibilities – made possible with SAP HANA Cloud Platform.

Lucas also mentioned how John Deere is providing predictive maintenance services. With this capability, customers are alerted of any looming mechanical failures, giving them time to fix the tractor before it actually breaks.

Again, the services marketing professional in me loved the call-out of design thinking and innovation management that helped these two customer develop a truly end-to-end solution. Knowing how successful this approach is to a number of companies worldwide, SAP recently restructured SAP Services & Support to provide one seamless and transparent customer experience. The shift to a proactive approach is the same as the John  Deere tractor example -- Identify a problem and alert a customer before an application experiences an issue.  Very cool indeed!

And as Lucas stated, “SAP HANA Cloud Platform is the key here, where the full-stack platform as a service and SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud are the provisioning of the Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS).”
