As a prelude to the start of SAPPHIRE NOW, I had the privilege to attend the SAP HANA Innovation Award Ceremony as a representative of the SAP Custom Development organization. I was super excited to be there because out of the more than 100 entries, two of our customers (Lenovo and Nan Jing City) were finalist and one of our customers (Heidelberg University) placed as Honorable Mention.
SAP’s approach to innovation, be it for an entire industry or simply one company, includes developing new, breakthrough technologies and best practices that shape and redefine businesses. SAP Custom Development co-innovated with these companies to provide tailor-made, business essential solutions that are either providing competitively differentiating breakthroughs or are changing the lives of their constituents and patients.
Lenovo Wins Award for Process Simplifier with New VMI and CFE system on SAP HANA
Lenovo contracted with SAP to help complete the acquisition of the IBM X86 server business, and replace the legacy IBM supply chain networks. In so doing, they initiated a project to enable X86 manufacturing capability and built an end-to-end supply chain IT platform in Lenovo’s existing PC plants in the US, Mexico, and China. The co-innovation project with SAP helped bring to life a smart and simple vendor managed inventory solution and super speedy cost forecasting engine. Smart Traffic in Nanjing City: an IOT solution (Top 3 Finalist for Digital Trailblazer Award)
By leveraging big data from different sensors and in-memory technology, the City Intelligence Operation Center in Nanjing China, worked with SAP to develop a system to provide real-time awareness and multi-dimensional analysis on speed, traffic flow, and traffic congestion -- as well as congestion discovery and traffic status prediction. With this Smart Traffic solution, city management officials can visualize traffic status and see the impact of policy changes, while citizens can understand the real time road condition and average travel time. Digital Transformation and Design in Cancer Diagnostics (Honorable Mention for Next-Gen Apps)
In collaboration with Heidelberg University Hospital, healthcare and IT joined forces to significantly accelerate and simplify the screening approach for cervical cancer in fragile infrastructures. The first project started with a study in Eldoret, Kenya, where cervical cancer is the most common cause of death from cancer. To improve this situation, a tablet app helps to digitize paper processes to accelerate the collection, exchange and remote access to patient data to enable early detection.
