This was my first SAPHIRE NOW. It was an experience :wink: , and also pretty much confirmed what I had been anticipating:
- SAP finally made it clear, that any customers’ conversion to S/4HANA will not be a one stop shop, but rather a well-planned journey. For this they are providing more roadmap guidance as ever before.
- Similarly, SAP emphasized, that architectural considerations, like the best use of a hot read-only stand-by disaster recovery system and strategic retention management, are more important than ever in times of in memory computing.
- Then it did not go without notice, how much technology has advanced again. Previously, the question had been how to fit a huge customer system into one HANA node, now the question is how to leverage a huge HANA system to host multiple HANA instances.
- Also, Fiori Cloud, Fiori Mobile and Fiori for iOS showed SAP's continued commitment to renewing the SAP user interface and user experience.
- Further, SAP restated their commitment to delivering cloud to cloud and cloud to on premise integration using the HCP based HCI.
- And finally, the proclaimed collaboration between SAP and Microsoft made complete sense for me, since it is very useful for customers with a two vendor joint SAP and Microsoft strategy, allowing better and quicker integration between their respective platforms.
Of course, there were many more topics at SAPHIRE NOW from the Digital Board Room to the Internet of Things. But for me, as a SAP architect, the above were the most relevant.
Last but not least, the Coldplay concert on Thursday night was not too bad an experience at all either :wink: .
