Today was the first official day of TechEd and SAPPHIRE… and what a whirlwind of activity around both Gateway and Duet Enterprise!

The overview session – roadmap and strategy – for the SAP NetWeaver Gateway and Duet Enterprise, presented by Andre Fischer and Martin Bachmann, attracted a good crowd (full house, over 100 people, standing room only) There were lively discussions and of course lots of excitement around the future of both products.

A hands-on Gateway development for beginners (CD160,  picture above) – attracted around 50 participants. andre.fischer, andreas.hoffnerand Chris chris.whealy (speaking on the photo below) were around to help and answer the questions. The session itself went very well in spite of a few network glitches. Several discussions with customers and partners showed that the upcoming session CD204 ( tomorrow )" CD204 - SAP NetWeaver Gateway and OData in Detail" is a perfect fit since it addresses several questions raised by the audience. Some of the questions: how can I filter in OData, how to handle logical units of work ... So we are looking forward to tomorrow’s session to answer these and other questions.

And for those who preferred the networking sessions, the Q&A session CD806 gave an opportunity to engage with Andre, Andreas and Chris. The session started with a short overview of SAP NetWeaver Gateway, which warmed up the audience, and questions started pouring in. Like in the Hands-On it turned out that the participants did not know about the capabilities of the OData protocol which will be addressed in tomorrow's session CD204.  The questions became however very detailed and encompassed topics such as $batch, OData modeling, monitoring and logging capabilities as well as deployment options. In addition we had questions about authentication and authorization concepts in SAP NetWeaver Gateway as well as the licensing of SAP NetWeaver Gateway. Since we had the last slot at the pod we extended our session because of the interested customers.

In the morning there was a very interesting key note held by Bill McDermot and Jim Hageman Snabe. Jim presented as the first non Microsoft Executive Productivity Apps on Windows 8 after he had been the first non Apple Executive to show productivity apps on the iPad. As one of the examples of SAP Mobile applications the application Electronic Medical Record was shown that is based on OData services published by SAP NetWeaver Gateway and the Sybase Unwired Platform.
In addition we had several intense discussions with partners and customers, having colleagues from RIG, development and product management on site was a good mix so that we could address the various interests of customers.

Day was as busy for holger.brucheltwho twitted in the morning ‘we are getting ready at our pod in hall 10, DT502.  Visit us after the keynote…"

And Holger (in the demo pod on the picture below) was ready with the Introduction to Duet Enterprise, - Duet Enterprise 1.0 hands-on demo, demo of the very latest version Duet Enterprise 2.0 – including the new integration into Microsoft SharePoint Online, new and improved developer story in Duet Enterprise 1.0 FP1 and Duet Enterprise 2.0, partner examples build on Duet Enterprise, examples from our reference customers and even an example of the rapid deployment-like partner built solution.

We already had quite a few discussions with customers & partners and showed several scenarios consuming NetWeaver Gateway services. Frequently asked questions from a Duet Enterprise perspective were the new development story introduced with SAP NetWeaver Gateway 2.0 SP05 and Duet Enterprise 1.0 FP1 SP03. It is now even simpler to build and consume your scenarios in SharePoint, but also leverage the services to be consumed on other devices. Also the collaboration / mash-up aspects possible in SharePoint (combining both SAP and SharePoint data) using Duet Enterprise was very well received. You can mix SharePoint tasks with workflows originating from SAP and provide a unified view.

Feel free to drop by at our pod in Hall 10. Just go to the end and turn to the right -- we are happy to talk to you at our pod "DT502 Improve User Experience for Employees, Customers and Partners".

And participants were up for a treat – we had a fully attended customer round table with Sanofi led by Gilles Vaugeois, Logistic Functional Expert of Sanofi,  and Philippe Merdrignac, Director of SAP Integrations of Sanofi .

A few words about the company:  Sanofi, a global and diversified healthcare leader, discovers, develops and distributes therapeutic solutions focused on patients’ needs.  Sanofi has a diversified offering of medicines, consumer healthcare products, generics and animal health, and has been a world leader in human vaccines.  This global healthcare leader has more than 110,000 employees in 100 countries.  In order to drive employee productivity, Sanofi has successfully adopted Duet Enterprise.
This interactive session helped participants to understand the evaluation and implementation process and lessons learned by the company.

In a nutshell as long as the "Business" saw the results of improved UI, they bought into the solution.  "Before Duet Enterprise" process for managing product data was with emailed Excel spreadsheets.  Afterwards, there is a complete automated work process, due to clear easy-to-use UI.
