It's fast, the results make sense and it has categorized results from SCN, SAP Help and the SCN Wiki. What is it? It's a Google Custom Search I created especially for SCN: http://bit.ly/new-scn-search
I started working on this last night and then slept on it for 4 hrs (I've got a 16 month old, after all). This morning I came in and put the finishing touches on it. Using this custom search, you can choose between Web and Image results and then refine them by several key categories:
| All Results | All resulst from scn.sap.com, wiki.sdn.sap.com and help.sap.com |
| Discussions | SCN Discussion (forum) threads only |
| SAP How-To Guide | How-To Guides |
| SCN Support Discussions | Search threads in the SCN Support forum (New!) |
| Blogs | SCN Blogs only |
| People | Find other SCN members (and follow them!) |
| Documents | All SCN documents (collaborative, articles, presentations, etc.) |
| Wiki | Results from the SCN Wiki |
| eLearning | All SCN demos, tutorials, eClasses (SAP TechEd), podcasts and SCN-TV videos |
| Spaces | Find SCN topic and product spaces: your starting point for related discussions, blogs, documents, news and more. (New!) |
What's really nice about this custom search, in additional to performance and granularity, is that I can use it to gauge how much content Google has crawled over the past week (Update on New SCN Results in Google) which, from what I can see based on the search results appearing, is a ton! It's also exciting to finally have SCN blogs appearing in Google search results en masse. Users can also find eLearning content with greater easy too.
I would have liked to further refine the discussions tab to filter for Open and Answered questions but I just couldn't get the query to run correctly
.
So, please give it a try and let me know what you think: http://bit.ly/new-scn-search
I know this is not a replacement for site search or the old SCN forum search but it's a starting point. The only reason I did this was in response to all the feedback I've seen in SCN Support and comments on Forum Finder for the New SCN about how hard it is to find what you're looking for. I feel your frustration and just wanted to help you continue connecting, collaborating and co-innovating on the New SCN with greater ease.
This is a free solution and Google was rather ambiguous about a daily quota for queries. Let me know if you run into a problem.
