This was a big SAPPHIRE NOW all around, especially around the UX topic. There were over 100 sessions between the ASUG Annual Conference and SAPPHIRE NOW on various user experience topics. This blog will summarize the highlights related to SAP Screen Personas.

Thanks to our customers for presenting their scenarios

First, I would like to express my sincere appreciation to the SAP Screen Personas customers that took time from their busy schedules to submit their abstracts, prepare the content, and present at SAPPHIRE NOW or the ASUG Annual Conference.

I would also like to thank the other people that presented on SAP Screen Personas whose sessions I was not able to attend. And to my colleagues who tirelessly staffed the UX pod showing SAP Screen Personas demos to the many customers that expressed interest in seeing this solution.

Great interest in how SAP Screen Personas and Fiori work together

Sebastian Steinhauer and Tobias Queck presented to a packed room session UX250 on how SAP Screen Personas and the Fiori Launchpad work together. Apologies to the customers that were not able to get in and we will redo the session in a webinar during the summer so everyone can see the demo.

The future is bright for SAP Screen Personas

In our roundtable discussion (session RT249 - Customer-Driven Development: You Can Influence SAP Screen Personas 4.0), we had 35 people trying to fit around an 8-person table. We had a great discussion about what people liked about the product and suggestions for improvements. And people contributed some good ideas for future versions. For now, we are focused on releasing SAP Screen Personas 3.0 as generally available and a follow-on service pack to make the installation process easier (all notes to date integrated into the product).

Mythbusters - continued

As always, we heard some “interesting” questions. I always wonder how some of these myths materialize. The goal is that the following table will provide clear answers to dispel any misperceptions about SAP Screen Personas.

Question

Answer

Will SAP Screen Personas be merged into Fiori?

No. And yes.

SAP Screen Personas is a tool that allows you to implement Fiori designs for your SAP GUI screens. So, SAP Screen Personas is part of the Fiori user experience, but it remains a separate technology focused on driving productivity through personalization.

Will Personas be entirely replaced by Fiori?

No. See above.

Is SAP Screen Personas dead?

Why did SAP discontinue SAP Screen Personas?

SAP is continuing to invest in Screen Personas as the primary tool to make SAP GUI screens more usable and transform them into the Fiori UX.

Do I need to be on EhP7 to run SAP Screen Personas 2.0?

You need to be on kernel 7.21, which is supported on systems with 700 basis or higher.

You can see the full system requirements for SAP Screen Personas 2.0.

Should I start now on SAP Screen Personas 2.0 or wait for SAP Screen Personas 3.0?

Start now on SAP Screen Personas 2.0.

SAP Screen Personas 2.0 is a very stable and mature product. We have many customers running this in production around the world.

The simplification approach is identical between the two versions. The hard work of understanding user requirements and streamlining business processes is the same. You do this independent of the tool. The screen menus are different between versions 2.0 and 3.0, but easy to learn in both cases.

Once you are live on version 2.0, you can migrate to 3.0 at your convenience after the product is generally available and you have the necessary pre-requisites in place. Migrating your work from 2.0 to 3.0 is fast and easy, so your work will be preserved.

Will SAP Screen Personas instantly make all my screens look great?

Not instantly.

SAP Screen Personas is a tool kit. You must modify the screens to make them look great.

If your design skills are poor, you can end up with a less than optimal screen.

With the new global theming in SAP Screen Personas 3.0, you can change the appearance of all screens at once, but this will not include additional simplifications to the transactions or work flows.
