I did my Masters degree in Management Sciences back in 2009 at Tel Aviv University.

My research there evolved around a topic that excited me back then and still is - finding the network value of items.

When you think about it, it's quite obvious: calculating the value of an item by multiplying the quantity sold by the revenue for that item is plain wrong: when I go to the convenient store I actually come for the gas for my car- so the coffee I buy "owe" part of it's revenue to the gas. Same goes for the pasta and tomato sauce - each one owe a part to the other. The solution is to think of items as a network and find a way to re-distribute the revenues across the network, and then look at what are the real leading products.

A few days ago I had a netmeeting with christina.obry from the Lumira cloud team regarding possible integration scenarios between Lumira Cloud and HANA Cloud Portal, and I found myself thinking - what if I had these tools back in 2009?

Very quickly I found my self thinking: I would create a site to expose the research and to collaborate with other researchers.

Today I had a few minutes to start drafting this scenario. Here is what I did so far:

1. I logged into my lumira cloud account via http://cloud.saplumira.com

2. I created a new dataset, based on the CSV that contained my research data:

3. I did some exploration. I will not bother you here with the details of this as this would require to actually read my paper and that's TMI 🙂

4. I went back to the Lumira home page and clicked on the info option:

5. I copied the open doc link:

6. I went to my Cloud Portal trial account via http://hana.ondemand.com

7. I created a new site and started editing it

8. I added a new URL widget

9. and paste the URL retrieved from Lumira - Et Voila:

10. Now to add the paper itself - add a doc widget :

11. select the doc from my PC (or from the Doc repository that is connected via CMIS to my doc repo):

12. a few site settings like simple URL, name, public setting...

13. Publish... Yes, I'm sure...

14. And we're done!

Important: Note that this works for me as I'm 'invited to' (or actually the owner of)  the Lumira exploration view. When sharing my site I should invite others to both my site and the lumira view (or as I did set the site to public and then I should only invite them to the lumira view).

Now, everyone can access my site and do their own analysis on my dataset while reading my paper side by side. sweet!

Next steps that I didn't have time to get to today, but are simple to accomplish:

a. add a Jam widget to enable a collaboration and discussion among my peers

b. set the theme and background of my faculty. If my university provided these tools for me as a student than most likely I'll already get this out of the box.

Cheers!
