Hi folks,

Been going through the SAP Teched 2012 presentations. SAP now has three databases, where there were none not so long ago. Here are my views.

Cloud

Plenty of companies asking for social capabilities into critical business workflows. Enter SAP Streamworks (similar to MS Sharepoint) and SAP JAM (Facebook for enterprises).

Companies to move from hybrid cloud to public private clouds by 2016.

ByDesign for subsidiaries to create a two step approach for SAP adoption.

Database

The most comprehensive technical view of the landscape was perhaps given in this slide below. Its interesting how all three - SAP HANA, Sybase IQ and ACE are positioned. To my knowledge, IQ with HANA only makes sense for Hadoop integration. So if an organization has high data volume growth, shall we pitch them IQ or HANA? Its clear that ACE will be replaced by HANA as the ERP database of choice within 2012.

Mobility

SAP acquired Syclo earlier this year and now intends to merge Syclo's Agentry platform with SUP; also will base its enterprise asset management (EAM) and field service mobile offering exclusively on Syclo.

Syclo built a strong business around its packaged mobile applications and development platform, particularly in industries such as oil and gas, utilities and other asset-intensive industries.

SAP will try to merge Syclo within SUP while maintaining partnerships with Sencha (hybrid HTML5), Appcelerator (cross platform JavaScript re-compiler) and Adobe Phonegap (HTML,CSS and JS). SUP will continue to provide device management

Problem with so many options is that the customer can get quite confused.

Sybase 365 Mobiliser Products covers an attractive mobile commerce opportunity in banking, payments and remittance.
