Kolkata made a resounding statement in the opening match of the 2014 Indian Premier Twenty20 tournament thumping the defending Champions by 41 runs. A tremendous tandem of batsmen in the first innings and some brilliant bowling in the second innings stifled the Indians chase and propelled the Knight Riders to the top of the table. With an online connection to SAP HANA we are quickly to visualize and analyze the recent action on the pitch in SAP Lumira.

After setting a formidable target of 163 runs powered by the pair of Kallis and Pandey, Kolkata's bowlers mowed through the Indians lineup and even held last year's orange cap winner to just three runs on 13 balls. With SAP Lumira we can very intuitively create a Manhattan chart for the match.

Kallis and Pandey, Kolkata's productive pair of batsmen, scored 136 of KKR's 163 runs off of 99 balls. By applying a few filters we can quickly chart the destructive duo's run scoring ball by ball. The pair struck 15 boundaries, sixes coming in a devastating pair overs towards the end of the innings.

Kolkata secured two points with exceptional bowling in the second innings, holding Mumbai to an average of only 6.10 runs per over. With Lumira we can easily create a pie chart with depth that shows the percentage of Mumbai's runs each KKR bowler conceded and with a slice's height representing the number of balls they bowled. Morne Morkel was outstanding for the Knight Riders. The South African conceded only 16 runs on 24 balls, taking one wicket and notching 15 dots.

The Kolkata bowlers took seven wickets in the match and really flummoxed Mumbai's potent lineup. Sunil Narine took four wickets, bowling three of them, for an impressive economy of 5.00 and a strike rate of 6.00. In SAP Lumira we can quickly visualize the breakdown of KKR's seven wickets.

Both Pandey and Morkel were acquired by KKR in this year's auction. Kolkata evaluate Cricket talent during the action with the real-time application, SAP Auction Analytics. The SAP Auction Analytics is powered by SAP HANA. Two of the Knight Riders newest members already are paying nice dividends for the club on the pitch. Discover more about KKR and SAP HANA here.
