Introduction

Climate change is here already. With extended and delayed monsoon season and unpredictable unseasonal rains, farmers are losing a lot of valuable food produce. Recently, parts of India have experienced hail storms for the first time ever resulting in loss of crops & lives.

Solving food problem with SAP

Governments, specially in agriculture based economies such as India, China urgently need to come up with a solution which will be able to predict and inform farmers about impending showers. This should be possible with the combination of SAP HANA for the prediction part and mobility for the reporting part.

Though the farmer may not be able to cover his crops, he might be able to salvage some amount of ready to harvest crops in certain types. Also, with seasons changing their arrival, the farmer will be able to sow seeds at an appropriate time.

Commercial Feasibility

Considering the fact that farmers invest more than a hundred thousand rupees in sowing & preparing, he would definately find it worth spending a marginal amount to get predictions. It would save him the cost of losing seeds sown much before rains and also help salvage grown food.
