I take great pride in leading the SCN social intelligence
program, which was one of the first implementation of SAP
HANA.
Our community members engage in SCN all the time: consuming
content, contributing, building relationships. These actions shape their
digital footprint. With a huge user base, the data grows at an accelerated pace. With
around 15 Billion records and a daily increase of about 3 Million, this
application of our SAP in Memory solution definitely constitutes as a Big Data
use case.
Think of the endless possibilities: what if we could target
content for each user, based on their interests. What if we can accelerate responses by
engaging the relevant community members? What if problems were addressed
faster? Wouldn’t it be great, if products were designed based on what the
community expresses? What if the
members contribution could help build their reputation?
There is still a long way to go as we hop on Big Data Bus
with its unknown destination. There is still a lot to uncover, many hurdles to
jump. We need to learn how to mime the data, how to effectively clean it and
how to use it wisely.
These are exciting times, and as we take our steps in this
new frontier, I can’t help but think of my favorite Dr Seuss story : “Oh, The
Places, You’ll go!”:
“You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you
choose. You're on your own. And you know what you know. And YOU are the one
who'll decide where to go...”
