SAP has announced today the introduction of SAP Simple Financials, a modern set of Finance Solutions.

Press release can be found here:

SAP Unveils SAP® Simple Finance, a Modern Set of Finance Solutions

While it is a great new product, that leveraged SAP ERP Financials, reengineered to leverage the power of HANA Platform, it clearly points to the future of the business suite itself.

SAP ERP Financials (FI/CO) was "transformed"  to SAP Simple Financials largely by great solution simplification. Data model was reworked to avoid duplications, tables removed and programs simplified.

This opens the door for the following to happen:

  • This work can also be done (and will be done) for the rest of the SAP ERP solution. Logistics modules can also benefit from this simplification. A leaner Logistics will run faster, in smaller databases, with simpler programs. I doubt this can be achieved as an upgrade path for existing customers. We may see the birth of a new ERP solution, simplified, pointing to the future of the Business suite itself.
  • Again, with the merge between OLTP and OLAP functions, planning and transactional, Business suite may, in the future, become an actual product, performing the merge of ERP + CRM + SCM + SRM, not only running on the same SAP system, but running all using and sharing the same dataset (master data, transactions). The removal of the need of CRM Middleware or SCM CIF will great simplify the customer's landscapes.

Lets continue following the announcements here at SAPPHIRENOW. So far, a great start.
