While we live in a world of ubiquitous connections, this improved level of connectivity does not ensure these connections will be equally productive and smart. Companies can only remove complexity and become more innovative and efficient when ubiquitous connection points become far more intelligent.

So why is intelligently connecting everywhere so important for removing complexity and driving greater innovation and efficiency? Simply put, when you intelligently connect everywhere, Business works best and Runs Simple, especially in the Digital Economy.

The Cloud, In-Memory computing, mobile applications, the Internet of Things, Analytics, and buying and selling networks offer the most value when intelligently connected. Manufacturing companies that orchestrate and intelligently connect these platforms and processes, along with industry best practices, “everywhere’ will ultimately gain and leverage competitive advantage.

In order to create competitive advantage in the new Digital Economy, companies must be able to navigate and intelligently connect processes, systems and industry best practices inside and outside the company’s four walls while accessing information in real time through any type of machine or device.

Manufacturing companies operating in disconnected information silos will experience increased operating risk, business complexity and lost business opportunity. Manufacturers must look at the intelligence of connected processes end to end to fully capture and capitalize on the improved connection power in the new Digital Economy.

Today, customers are far more informed and expect highly personalized,  intelligently connected, relevant experiences regardless of where or how they purchase your products. Well, orchestrated intelligent supply chains require mastery over integrated connections between customer orders, supply, and changing market conditions, if you are to delight the customer while optimizing operating efficiency and costs.

Manufacturers are under constant pressure to innovate profitably at speed while also protecting their intellectual property.Product design today is far more collaborative and connected and can include multiple contributors and suppliers within and outside the company. Companies must be able to identify and source new materials and suppliers quickly and efficiently while ensuring the safety of the products, materials and substances that they purchase from their suppliers.

And while there are plenty of good ideas and designs, poor disconnected project management processes can lead to escalated costs and missed market opportunities because of late market releases. Both planned and unplanned design changes can have profound impacts on product manufacturability and efficiency,so intelligently linking and connecting processes bi-laterally, between design and manufacturing are important factors in improving production efficiency, reducing waste and delivering increased production flexibility.

Manufacturers must be able to produce products in high volumes to the unique requirements of one customer while maintaining and further optimizing product costs and quality. As customers move from consumers to users, manufacturers must also be able to move from product providers to solution consultants. To ensure safe and sustainable operations, manufacturers must ensure the predictability and the reliability of their assets performance while ensuring operating compliance with environmental regulations, and managing the safety of their people.

Given these types of challenges, it is impossible for manufacturing companies to Run Simple and efficient without intelligently connected processes and systems. Up until now, managing, leveraging and analyzing all the data from these various connection points was nearly impossible. Now, with the SAP S/4HANA platform, manufacturing companies can not only manage more structured and unstructured data faster, but most importantly can now innovate like they have never been able to do before.
