Are you ready for Sapphire? Here are my top 3 recommendations before you head out the door and to keep in mind during the event. . .

1) Make sure you have an Agenda!  Although we focused on simplifying with fewer campuses and co-locating the theaters “Downtown”, you can still get lost in the big Sapphire “City”.  It’s always best to have a roadmap for what you want to achieve so you do not miss key attractions – you can always take a side-road or explore something else along the way.

  • Build or update your personal agenda
  • To learn more about what we have available at the Industrial Machinery & Components ASUG Special Interest Group (SIG) on Tuesday, check out this blog.
  • Download the Mobile app for Sapphire before you go so you have an event "GPS" available.

2)  Networking is one of the most important benefits to this conference.  Load your bag right now with business cards and bring a back-up supply!  Make an effort to visit your industry campus – Industrial Machinery & Components (IM&C) will be included in the Discrete Industries campus.  That will be where you can find solution and industry experts that are eager to meet and talk with you!  Explore various venues such as the ASUG SIG sessions, Microforums for lively discussions, forums, keynotes, and visit partner booths (great if you want invites to parties).

If you are meeting casually with peers, plan to meet up in the Downtown area as you enter the convention center or at lunch.  If you are meeting with someone you have not met before, look them up on LinkedIn in advance so you know what they look like.

When you get home, don’t leave those business cards in stack on your desk – follow up with who you have met, send a LinkedIn invite, or use an app such as CamCard to take a photo and load them into your Outlook contacts.

3) HAVE FUN  and stay comfortable.  The 3-day event can seem like a marathon so pace yourself and make sure to wear shoes that will allow you to walk a few miles every day. A few more tips:

  • Avoid injuries and unfortunate mash-ups by watching where you are going instead of looking down at your mobile device!
  • When you need a break, visit the Downtown to relax in a comfortable chair and enjoy a coffee or ice cream.
  • It will be in the mid 80’s and partly cloudy every day (with rain most likely on Thursday). Although it may be hot and humid, remember there will be air conditioning in the Convention Center so dress accordingly.
  • Take advantage of partner parties to network and enjoy free food and drink.
  • Rock out with Jon Bon Jovi and The Kings of Suburbia at Wednesday’s Celebration Night!

We look forward to welcoming you to SAPPHIRE NOW and ASUG Annual Conference.
