SAP Digital Insurance Innovation Summit October 13–14, 2016 | San Francisco, CA

By Bob Cummings, SAP Global Head – Insurance Business Unit

Fall is just around the corner, and the insurance team at SAP has been hard at work putting together the SAP Digital Insurance Innovation Summit, taking place October 13–14, in San Francisco.

Our industry is in the midst of dramatic transformation, so now is the time for innovation. We have gathered a fantastic group of C-level representatives from the leading insurers around the world to come together and discuss reimagining business and driving prosperity in the new digital economy. Here’s your preview of what to expect, and I hope you join us in California this October.

Technology trends

As you evaluate the technology innovations changing the industry, it’s important to determine which trends demand your attention and which ones will just lead to wasted time and money. That’s why the very first day of the event includes a keynote presentation by Sanjay Kaniyar, McKinsey&Company, who will explain how changing consumer behavior and rapid adoption of new technologies is rapidly impacting the insurance industry. There are both opportunities and threats, as the profitability gap between digital leaders/winners and laggards could be as much as 30%. Next, Roland Bloesch, from insurance customer engagement and commerce at SAP will discuss the future of insurance sales and customer relationships, and how to bring real-time information to customers through multiple touch points. Also that day, Prakash Darji, general manager of Platform as a Service for SAP, will share how the Internet of Things (IoT) and its connected devices and solutions, including SAP HANA Cloud Platform, will drive innovation for the insurance industry and the products it covers. At lunch you will have the opportunity to join the Solution Showcase. You’ll get a rundown of the digital capabilities supported by SAP software and hear use cases on digital core operations, IoT platforms, Big Data, and predictive analytics.

Case studies

Exploring the effects of innovation from live companies is crucial to understanding how your company can embrace innovation. That is why throughout the conference you’ll hear from SAP customers about how they have changed their business models, adapted to their customer bases, moved to the cloud, and reduced IT complexity. This is a great way to see how companies are achieving unmatched real-time insights into profitability and performance metrics. You’ll see what they’re doing and how you can follow in their steps.

SAP and Apple

This event is also your chance to get an exclusive peek into the recently announced partnership between Apple and SAP with a trip to the Apple campus in Cupertino. Powerful native apps for iPhone and iPad will be supported with the SAP HANA platform, revolutionizing the mobile work experience for SAP customers. We’ll discuss what this means, and how this partnership will benefit insurers. Representatives from Apple, SAP, and other partners will then have a panel discussion on innovation, transformation, and technology.

SAP and RocketSpace

RocketSpace, an SAP partner, is an innovation consultancy that has worked with corporations including Uber, Spotify, and Supercell. With access to thousands of startups around the world, RocketSpace is a hub of innovation and disruption and is helping to create innovative business models that will change the way the world works. Conference attendees will get the chance to visit the RocketSpace offices and discover how the company is bringing large insurance carriers and startups together.

SAP and Stanford

The conference concludes on Friday with a trip to Stanford University to discover the innovations being made on campus today and how they will affect business tomorrow. First we’ll visit the Stanford Institute for Computational & Mathematical Engineering to learn about innovations in data science for insurance and financial services. Then, at the Stanford Center for Design Research, we will explore the partnership between SAP and Stanford and how it is shaping the future of innovation. We will conclude our trip by visiting the Sugar Network, a global networking program at Stanford that brings together multidisciplinary students from different universities and challenges them to solve real-world product development challenges.

Plan your trip

With all that we have planned, plus lots of time to network and collaborate with peers from around the world, this year’s SAP Digital Insurance Innovation Summit will be a valuable experience, no matter where your company is in its journey to digital transformation. Register today to join us in San Francisco on October 13–14.
